Description

Discover the Living Truth of a Foundational Christian Belief The Trinity is one of the most important teachings of the Christian faith. It defines God's very essence and describes how he relates to us. In this book, Dr. James R. White offers a concise, understandable explanation of what the Trinity is and why it matters. While refuting the distortions of God presented by various cults, Dr. White shows how understanding this teaching leads to renewed worship and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Christian. And amid today's emphasis on the renewing work of the Holy Spirit, The Forgotten Trinity is a balanced look at all three persons of the Trinity. May this book deepen your understanding of this important doctrine while also drawing you closer to the triune God himself. Read more

  • Take the First Step
There are libraries full of books on the Trinity and there are many more comprehensive than this. However, this book helped me to know more about God and develop a deeper relationship with Him in knowing more about his nature, his attributes, his truth, his purpose and his deep love for me. The explanation of the prologue in John was great and the discussion/notes on "monogenes/only-begotten" was very helpful since I had struggled with this from my days of memorizing John 3.16 in the KJV. The author many times goes back to the Greek text and shows its meaning in the context of the culture and times of the early church. This is so helpful. The book is also somewhat apologetic in that it touches upon some of the improper interpretations of God, especially the relationship between the Father and the Son, Jesus Christ. This book does a good job of discussing the coequality and coeternality of the three persons of the Trinity. I wish the book had a dictionary of some of the "churchy" terms like modalism, subordination, person, docetism, dualism, etc. but there are other sources for these. Individuals in our Bible study class have purchased this book and we are using it as our primary reading material in study of the Trinity. Coupled with other books like Wayne Grudem's Systematic Theology, Baker Publishing's Evangelical Dictionary of Theology, Justo Gonzalez's The Story of Christianity, historical Christian creeds, and several good commentaries, it has allowed us to know more about God and the persons of the Father, Jesus Christ the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This book is a great starting place for the lay person or the Christian who has been given opinions of who/what the Trinity is but sees some inconsistencies, has some skepticism and has questions. I highly recommend this book for us people. Enjoy. ... show more

  • I'm giving James White five stars only because I love his debates online and he is extremely intelligent man
I'm giving James White five stars only because I love his debates online and he is extremely intelligent man. I find this book very hard to understand because it goes way over my head. I watched his video on YouTube explaining the trinity and I understood completely. I think the book goes into a lot of extra stuff than getting to the point but it is a great book. Mind you I am on page 57 right now. If I never heard of the doctrine of the trinity before, I would be lost reading this book. But because I've study it though bible study guides geared for kids, I have a basic understanding of the Trinity. The book isn't what I thought it would be. It uses very large vocabulary. I'm 25 years old and I struggle in that area. I do wish there was books written out there that explain things in simpler terms. I'm not saying he didn't speak truth but I am saying a lot of these theologians forget who the audience is. I have no schooling other than high school and I am a women and can't go to seminary. Some people don't know doctrine or theology. I know he's reformed. Some even dismiss it because they don't understand what it means. Basically doctrines are teachings of God. But there are certain groups and it gets all confusing. I'm trying to stick with what the word says, and not what men say. I like when you get right to the point in something. James takes his time and explains a bunch of other stuff in between. I appreciate that about him. But for me it wasn't what I was looking for. I believe in the Trinity because the bible clearly talks about it. But do I fully understand it. No I do not. I am hoping after I'm done I might. I am finding out the truths of the bible and it is amazing. A study book I recommend is called The One True GOD by Paul Washer. He breaks down the scriptures and the meaning who God is and the trinity. Now I understood that. This book is more for a college level or a really smart person. I am not smart. Clearly. I read it and scratch my head at some parts and am lost. Just like R.C Sproul. They talk only to a certain person with more brain cells. OR maybe I'm wrong all together. ... show more

  • OUTSTANDING PIECE OF ART
This book is an OUTSTANDING PIECE OF ART. The art is not in the design but in the way that Dr. White presented the doctrine of Trinity. I can say that Dr. White wrote this book in a way that is easy for all people to understand, you don't have to have a degree in Theology to understand it. The author was able to explain and defend a hard to understand doctrine in an easy to ready language. Even that his intention is not to defend the doctrine of Trinity but to explain it in a way that makes people love God more. In many occasions I have used some passages of this book with Jehovah's Witnesses and it always shocked them. One of the things I love about this book, that Dr. White, even that he is an expert in Biblical Greek and Hebrew, he did not use a lot of original languages in his book, he addressed the subject in a very simple way, knowing that many of his readers will not have a background in Greek or Hebrew. This book should be rated as 5++. I highly recommend you to study this book. I wish we can translate this book to Arabic. Dr. James White is one of favorite apologists, and I always learn great things from him. ... show more

  • The best
A really great book on the subject. White deals with the subject in a very logical and well formulated order. The writing isn't so over scholarly that it's tough, it's written for anyone to pick up and read (which is the stated purpose of the book). White's writing is always on target and biblical. He gives each topic the serious and hard look it needs and even pulls in logical and historical claims with the understanding they are secondary to the biblical text. Not only does he make his case for the Trinity but also the importance of why it's needed; and this message is carried throughout each of the parts of the book. White also does a great job of tying both Old Testament and New Testament Scripture together and really provides a well rounded discussion on a lot of missed text outside the standard ones known. This book is the book I would recommend anyone to pick up if they are looking to understand, know, or grow deeper in seeing who the trinitarian God of the Bible is. Final Grade - A+ ... show more
