Description

Use electric fencing to protect your livestock, poultry, beehives, and garden. Portable electric fencing is key to successful rotational grazing, while permanent electric fencing effectively protects gardens and orchards and secures large pastures. Through clear instructions accessible to everyone, you’ll learn when to use these methods or a combination of the two, plus how to plan for, build, and maintain your electric fencing. This crucial tool is cost effective and versatile, but veteran farmer and author Ann Larkin Hansen also explains what not to do with an electric fence. Read more

  • Suitable for those that have almost zero knowledge of electricity.
It's the ideal instruction book for those who have an electrical background, but due to age and retirement, have sort of let past knowledge slip their mind. Think of it as an ideal refresher course.

  • Useful but not Comprehensive
It’s a good book, very helpful. I’m surprised that I wasn’t able to find e-fencing info online in any great detail, and this book fills in some edges. That said, it doesn’t fill in all the edges. I’m not sure where you do get all those edges filled in unless you have a knowledgeable guy at Tractor Supply or Runnings you can ask. Or just experiment. Suffice it to say that if you have decent soil that holds moisture, a temporary ground will make a good enough spark to hold most cattle (which are easy... even my shaggy Highland ones). If you’ve got sandy soil, you may want an experienced installer no matter how much rain you do or don’t get per year. Sometimes you can get your questions answered on one of the farm/livestock forums... like “permies” or “backyard herds” if anyone even knows the answers. That said I’d still buy this book. I just wish it was more thorough. ... show more

  • So good I had to buy a copy.
I've been trying to figure out electric fencing and all the various components for a few months now and this book has had the most information in one book. It explains temporary fencing (netting) and permanent fencing and what you need. It talks about costs for each type. It's like having a knowledgeable friend explain it all to you. I highly recommend this book. ... show more

  • Well written based on Experience
This book is direct, to the point, based on experience and has very little jargon. I would have given it a 5 if it had more sketches or pictures on items such as energizer, ground rod and runout line configurations.
