    • Very practical drumset book
I have been teaching with this book for years. The 2nd edition is slightly different with online access to the songs. The book moves at a good pace and is thorough. Some books just glance over things and move too fast. This book teaches the student beats that are used in the real world.

    • Great book for beginners and those who already play but want to learn to read music
I use this with all my beginning students, and for those students who already have playing experience but have learned everything "by ear" and want to be able to read and understand the musical rythyms. The book is laid out in a way that makes sense and is easy to follow, with each section building upon the previous section. The play alongs are admittedly pretty cheesy, but it's much cheaper to license your own music as opposed to music that is pre-existing and done by somone else. Cheesy as they might be, they offer a chance to put your skills into practice in a "real "situation. This book teaches you how to play beats and use them in musical sitatuions. not just to memorize exercisies only to never play them again in the "real world". This book never gets any harder than "Easy Intermediate" but it's a great book for those just starting out and/or learning to read music. After completing this book, students have a great foundation and can go to any other book and still apply what they learned here. ... show more
