  • Good Book for the Basics
Format: Paperback
This is a good book for the basics. I bought this so I would know what my auto mechanic was talking about when I brought my car in for repairs or maintenance. It helped me be on the same page as my mechanic and to trust the mechanic's recommendations rather than feel that I was being sold something that I didn't need. ... show more

  • Idiots Guide to Auto Repair
This is totally for someone that don't know a wrench from a screw driver. I was looking for some troubleshooting tips and it was useless for me but I have played with cars for years.

  • A must have to save money and your sanity
Format: Paperback
As a single woman who finds doing things herself remarkably empowering, the auto repairs were the one area that scared the daylights out of me. Not just changing the oil, but everything. I knew I knew what was needed, but it was the 'doing'. This book freed me. The empowerment I felt before purchasing the book has doubled now that I can do the 'do' and do it right. The book is written for those of us who may think we are "idiots" or those of us who may actually be (yes, my son uses it too) and not only saves money, but our sanity too. Since purchasing the book, I have changed my oil, replaced a passenger door lock mechanism, and even a belt pully - MYSELF. The confidence the book has given me has allowed me to attempt and complete even those repairs not covered int he book. I now have the book in my car, and in my son's car. A copy will be in every car I own - it is a must have addition tot he tool box. ... show more

  • don't buy this
This is an ok book if you are an eight year old girl who likes unicorns and princesses but wants to know about auto repair. Buy auto repair for dummies instead if you know little but want to learn

  • Good book, but might be a bit too simplistic for some
Format: Paperback
It's got a lot of "if you don't know what a car even is" level description, but it might be a bit too basic for some people. For the "idiots" though, it's perfect.

  • excellent overview of modern cars and how to care for them
With many detailed illustrations of car subsystems and components, someone with little knowledge of how cars work can become well versed on the basics through this book. Many troubleshooting and maintenance sections are included. Certainly no one will become a master mechanic after reading the book but for sure simple tasks like oil changes, battery replacements become practical plus when the car does have to go in the shop, at least an understanding of what the mechanic says is wrong is possible. Good basic car maintenance and repair guide overall though a manual for the specific model of car will be needed if going beyond the basics. ... show more
