Description

Jesús and Maria love each other, endlessly, magnificently, even though they sometimes just don’t notice. But hey, now that their little lump of love is born, everything’s going to work out. Sure, Maria still has a bit of a North- Korean streak in handling the household, calling all the shots when it comes to the color of their apartment walls, the name of the baby, the food they eat, the TV shows they watch, the thickness of the toilet paper and their holiday destination. Jesús, to prove to her and himself he ain’t some spineless trilobite but that he has a will of his own, gets to pick the coffee table. Hallelujah! A hard-won victory that he’s cherishing by picking out the most aggressively ugly little thing imaginable, the furniture equivalent of Liberace getting lost in Ikea. An unbreakable wonder, says the salesman. Overpriced, says Maria. It will bring boundless happiness to their lives, says the salesman. Their worst nightmare, says us…Cayé Cases is a black belt in humor of that very same color, his previous feature KILLING GOD already convinced us of that. Now he’s pushing the limits of unbearableness even further and he doesn’t need evil ghosts or monsters or possessions to do so, just a little insignificant coffee table. But mark our words, that damn table will drive you through a mental hell, stuck in a limbo between nervous laughter, disgust and an urge to cleanse your eyes of the images they’ve just been exposed to. The question is, can you handle that?

  • Great movie!
This movie was truly one-of-a-kind. It may come off at first, well this is just stupid, but it’s NOT. Just keep watching and I believe you will enjoy as much as I did. The only thing I didn’t like, which is no big deal, were the subtitles. Subtitles in any movie make it kinda hard to “watch” the movie. But all in all this movie gets 5 stars from me. I highly recommend it! ... show more

  • Not Comedy and not Horror
It's very well acted and definitely worth watching. But if you read the Stephen King review, you might be expecting a supernatural horror movie. Oh, the "event" that happens is horrible. But I'd say this is more a Shakespearean tragedy than horror. Maybe even like a Hitchcock movie. Once the "event" happens, the dread and intensity rises slowly to a rapid boil at the end. Not a movie you'd want to watch twice, but a good movie. ... show more

  • Disturbingly good
It is honestly hard to put into words after watching this. For those of you need something exciting to entertain you this is not for you hence the ones who give horrible reviews and state they were bored.. This film is dark and deeply emotionally and psychologically disturbing! It makes you feel very uncomfortable watching the whole story enfold. Shock, horror, dread and guilt is what this film is about and it penetrates deep. It was hard to watch and though it really is a good film I can’t imagine somebody would want to convince themselves to watch this more than once so definitely rent it. ... show more

  • Total waste of time
I read such great reviews of this so I rented it. That’s an hour and a half I want back. Thank god it was only $3. One dramatic thing happens near the beginning, offscreen so we don’t know actually what happened. Then nothing interesting happens for another hour and then it ends. Garbage. The characters were easily some of the most annoying I’ve ever watched and everyone sucks. I kept watching thinking it would get good and all the accolades had to have meant something. I don’t know what movie those critics were watching because it couldn’t have been this one. Maybe you have to be from Spain to enjoy this? I got so frustrated watching these wastes of films I wrote my own. A lot of interesting stuff happens to people you care about. Filmmakers should try it. ... show more

  • Gut-wrenching and shocking
After hearing all the buzz about this movie, I had to check it out. It made my jaw drop and my stomach turn. It's a well-thought-out movie, with some good acting with some straight-forward direction.

  • Good
More of suspense than anything, & has some gore. If you have kids, especially babies or very little kids, I don't recommend watching. May be too sensitive for parents. I saw it on tiktok lol but it's not bad overall.

  • Honestly brutal
If you've read The Tell Tale Heart and enjoyed it, then you'll like this movie. It has a similar storyline, except instead of an eye, it's the coffee table.
