  • Most Underrated Modern Animated Film
I had low expectations the first time I watched this movie. The reviews were mediocre at best, both from the critics and other people. However, I was pleasantly surprised, and it has become one of my favorite movies. Not only does this movie have a great “pick me up” story, but is also full of happy and uplifting undertones. Furthermore, the dialogue is both great for kids as well as interesting and multi-layered for adults—I believe this is one of the most underrated aspects of this movie. The use of the “alien” language makes for a linguistically fun and interesting movie. I’m sure there are many with legitimate criticisms of this movie; but, if you’re looking for a funny, interesting, feel-good movie after having a rough day or week, this is the movie to put on. ... show more

  • Amazing movie! Adorable with great life lessons
I love this movie for so many reasons! Touches on so many topics/lessons for kids and is adorable as well! Initially I thought it might be annoying or for really young kids based on the cover picture, but this isn't the case at all! Love the lessons on diversity, accepting other cultures vs believing you are superior/smarter, etc, understanding emotions, consequences of mistreating others & being reckless, appreciation of art, power of music and dancing, being unique & different, taking perspective of others, friendship & family, loyalty & sacrifice vs selfishness, bravery, and more. I also love that the main character is a beautiful black girl with curly hair and possibly hispanic mother? instead of white like so many movies are. I like that media is finally (though slowly) catching up to real culture. This is especially great for the girls I nanny for, who are half white/black and asked why so many Disney movies have girls with light skin and straight/wavy hair instead of darker skin and curly hair like theirs. They already talk about wanting straight hair and how their dolls with lighter skin are prettier, which is heartbreaking. The girl is also in 7th grade, and movie appeals to both younger and older kids, while also being entertaining for adults! :) ... show more

  • Best kids' movie for all ages that I have seen in ages
I am almost 30 and I love this movie. It's a heartfelt story about an alien arriving on Earth with it's species. All humans have been put into a relocation center - that the aliens think is "better" and "nice" because it's filled with games and candy. One little girl accidentally was left in the city, and becomes a traveling companion for the alien. He made a mistake and is trying to run away, and she is trying to find her mom with her faithful cat named Pig. It's hilarious and cute. I haven't laughed this hard in a kids movie - for kid humor - in years. Despite my normal dislike of pop music, I love the soundtrack. It's very fitting. Potential Cons I am not a parents, but I do teach English as a Second Language, so I feel it should be noted that the alien speaks very poor English. He mixes up words since it is his Second Language and he messes up words. For example, he calls exiting a cupboard into the main room going "into the out." He drops prepositions and articles sometimes as well. He constantly messes up "my mom." While this adds to the cuteness and the humor, if you have a toddler learning to speak, it might be confusing. I'm not sure, as I said, I have no children. Personally, I now tell my kitties that they need to go "into the out now" when I want them to go on the balcony. : ) ... show more

  • "New" Blu-ray Was Obviously A Used Disc
This review is for the actual disc condition and not the movie itself. I have bought several movies directly from Amazon and have had no problem before. I had selected the condition to be new but upon opening the case it was very apparent that this disc was not new at all, just repackaged. There were smudges, fingerprints from someone else on it, and multiple scratches across the disc surface. If you're claiming a product is new it should actually be new and not so obviously used and damaged. ... show more

  • My kids are OBSESSED
My kids are completely obsessed with this movie. They love the characters. When we aren't watching this movie, they are role playing the movie at home. They love the soundtrack. We listen to it non-stop in the car. They watch the show on Netflix. Basically all we do around here is Home related. I hadn't even heard of this movie before we stumbled across it on Amazon one day, and now it's my whole life. ... show more

  • Clever, Creative, Funny
We LOVE this movie! The characters are funny without feeling forced, the story is very cute, and the Boov (aliens) are really comical! It has the expected subtle adult humor without being suggestive or sexual, but mostly it's just ironically or verbally funny. It's a super sweet story about a girl trying to find her mom after aliens take over the planet and relocate the entire human population to Australia while the aliens seek refuge over the rest of the planet trying to hide from their enemies. The outcast alien and the girl who wasn't relocated become friends, both with their own missions. It's incredibly sweet! My husband and I have watched it a few times by ourselves, with no kids present, and we often quote the movie. Win! ... show more

  • Great movie for all ages. Easy to relate to characters.
This is a really good kid's movie. I liked it mostly because of the music; it has a good storyline and it's comical moments. Almost cried during the movie due to the girl missing her mom and Oh's lack of friends. Big themes on loneliness and lacking relationships. Jim Parsons was the perfect candidate to play Oh as slightly different Sheldon. Spoiler: It's one of those, "there are no real bad guys" kind of movies. All the bad guys are redeemed in some sense. ... show more
