Why did you pick this product vs others?: I wanted to get this because I hate to get out of bed to turn my lamp off each night. It took an extra day or two to get here, and when I got it wasn't in a box. Just a clear plastic bag. But, that's fine, after reading on here, how to set it up no problem. It has two areas to use; one plug-in area uses claps 2 times, and the other 3 times. Once I knew which one I had plugged my lamp into (3 claps), I made sure the lamp was turned on and then practiced clapping, Yeah! Works great! ... show more

In the "Why didn't I do this before?" file: The Clapper. Those of us over a certain age will remember the commercials. "Clap on! Clap off! Clap on, clap off, the Clapper!" My specific memory is the last few seconds, with an "old" (to me) lady with white curly hair clapping her hands twice in a very succinct fashion and she rolls over in bed as her light shuts off. That's me now. I should have done it before the hip operation but so it goes. I have the original house automation appliance and can shut my nightstand light without having to reeeeeach over there (it's not close, the way things are set up). I can nestle into bed with River beside me, snuggle up to my pregnancy pillow on the other side (it's great for my bad back, hip, knees, etc. I highly recommend it and will link it in the comments) and clap my hands to shut the light. Of course, it also turns the light on and off when I'm clapping my hands at the dogs because they're being buttheads and I need extra emphasis on what I'm saying to them. Or when I close the nightstand drawer a little too hard. Or the bed shifts against the wall. Or I drop something on the hardwood floor, which is happening way more often than is necessary. If I applaud something, my bedroom becomes a disco. But I don't have to contort myself and hurt my new hip to shut my light anymore. Who needs fancy AI-enabled house automation when you can just clap your hands? Alexa, Google, etc. can buzz off. Or, clap off if you like. 5 claps for the Clapper. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ ... show more

For 10 years, I joked with my husband that I wanted a clapper. He finally caved and I love it lol even with it's quirks... it takes some practice to get the rhythm and tone of your claps right to work it, but still better than having to get out of bed! Unfortunately, it does register perfectly timed coughs and will turn on/off unexpectedly. It doesn't work for items that have to be turned on/off with buttons like an oscillating fan. ... show more

The think about a clapper is that it’s funny and cheesy every day. I got a little Pavlovian thing going where my reaction to having to turn off a light, even in a random room, is to clap. My 33 year light switch reflex has been so swiftly over taken by my clap reflex. Old dogs 🀝 new tricks. Very touchy at times, very stubborn other times. Couldn't get it to work on my mother -in-laws touch lamp. I took it home. Sometimes it turns the lamp on if there's a loud noise on TV. Then I have to keep clapping πŸ‘ over and over to turn it off. 🀷
