Description

An exhaustive appraisal of the Rolex watch, including studies of vintage models, current designs and special editionsLearn how to spot fakes using the same clues as the expertsInvaluable to any watch-lover, especially aspiring Rolex collectorsHorological trends flit by faster than ever in today's fast- paced society. But Rolex does not rely on gimmicks; theirs is a more perennial allure, with a reputation built on traditions and hard-earned skill. A company that innovates while paying homage to their roots, every Rolex is the cumulation of centuries of watchmaking expertise. Within this book you will find explanations of the making process, descriptions of the materials involved and expert commentary on what makes each Rolex wristwatch unique. The Book of Rolex demonstrates how each model fits its social milieu, present and past. It also addresses the multitude of fakes on the market, including the so-called 'Frankensteins' - watches made from a mixture of real parts and forgeries, which are notoriously hard to spot - imparting all the skills needed to pick counterfeits out of a line-up. A holistic view of Rolex watches, this book promises to be as timeless as the brand itself. Should you be considering a Rolex, this book will convince you of its worth as an investment. Read more

  • Fan Boy Table Book
If you are the type of person who enjoys a pleasant evening looking at pictures of Daytona watch dials, this is the book for you. This is a breezy Rolex fan boy picture book. The photos are beautiful and the writing is upbeat and fun. Now, if you are one of those "serious" collectors who obsess about the details of watch movements, this is not the book for you. You will find "The Book of Rolex" much too lighthearted for you. I am sure there is a technical manual for you somewhere. ... show more

  • Very nice book
There are a few things which I like about this book. First, the photos are great; it's almost a "coffee table" book in that manner. The variety of watches photographed in detail is impresseive. Second, the history of each Rolex model is provided. I found this informative and interesting, as I'm not actually a Rolex aficianado. Finally, the ancillary information is impressive. These would be topics such as Rolex's manfuacturing (most vertically integrated company I've ever heard of) as well as a short chapter on Tudor watches. Must have book prior to buying a Rolex, but also a good book for anyone interested in fine wristwatches. ... show more

Purchased for a Rolex fanatic - my husband’s boss! He thought this was the perfect coffee table accessory and loved flipping through the history of every Rolex ever made. Fantastic book.

  • Nice But Not Exactly What I Expected
This is a nice book with some great photos and interesting subject matter. However, although the publication date is 2019, the book was actually first copyrighted in 2015 with the Danish edition. What does that mean to you as the reader? I will use the Rolex Explorer as an example. The latest model of the Explorer is the 39mm model 214270 released in 2016. You will not find that model in the book. Instead you will find the older models issued years earlier. Nowhere in the short introduction page do the authors make reference to the book being updated for the 2019 version. I think we can assume it has not been updated. Since the Danish edition was copyrighted in 2015 I think it is safe to say the book is current through, maybe late 2014 or so, five long years ago. Likewise, using the Explorer again as an example, there are no images of the latest model in the book. For me this was a bummer because I own the 2016 version and I expected a reference to it in a 2019 book. Would I buy this book again? Yes. It is nicely done and has some interesting information and excellent images. If you are a Rolex fan you should like this book. The Book Of Rolex runs about 200 pages with easy to read and understand text, along with mostly promotional photos and press images from Rolex with a few exceptions. It has a table of contents but no index. It has interesting chapters including: Changing the dial on your Rolex, How to spot a fake Rolex, Customizing your watch, Your first Rolex, a chapter on vintage Rolexes, and chapters about the Rolex movement, bracelet, and servicing your watch. In total there are 36 chapter including one on Tudor, "Rolex's Forgotten Brother." Summary, 3 out of 5 stars from this reader. ... show more
