Description

1 New York Times bestselling author Stephen King's timeless novella The Body, originally published in his 1982 collection Different Seasons and adapted into the 1986 film classic Stand by Me, now available as a stand-alone edition. Four rambunctious young boys venture into the Maine woods in search of a boy from a nearby town who has disappeared. Gordie Lachance and his three friends set out on a quest to find the missing boy's body along the railroad tracks. The Body is set outside King's iconic fictional town of Castle Rock, which is the setting of many of King's most popular books including It and The Stand, and Castle Rock, a 10-episode Hulu original series, based on King's short stories. King's The Body is an iconic coming of age story that explores the loneliness and isolation of young adulthood. Read more

The movie is a surprisingly very accurate retelling, almost down to key details that most filmmakers would find unnecessary. But that’s Rob Reiner for you, there are obviously some notable differences, this story is a tad more magical realism, there’s a much bleaker side to the ending. And Gordies life as an author takes center stage a lot more, there’s a sequence near the early middle, that I do think kills the pacing a tad. With a story that isn’t in the movie by the way, that kind of comes out of nowhere, and while it’s interesting it doesn’t have the same thematic relevance as Lard A&& does. It’s a great story, I haven’t read a ton of Kings shorts or his novellas, because he’s written so much that it’s hard to keep up. Plus most of his shorts and novellas are what RL Stine would call a feature length novel so that’s a ton of reading. But the high spots are always high, The Body is no exception. ... show more

Format: Paperback
I love this book and I mostly only bought it because of the movie, but I wish I got the one that says stand by me instead of fairy tale🥹✌️

  • Great
Format: Audiobook
The Body is my favorite Stephen King short story. And the movie Stand by me is my favorite. It was neat hearing this story read by one of the actors that was a young boy in the movie.

  • The book and movie are extremely similar
Format: Paperback
I had seen the movie multiple times before finally deciding to read the book it was based on. Truthfully, some (many) scenes are word-for-word. They didn’t alter much aside from the ending and just a few other small portions of the book. I felt like I was rewatching the movie as I was reading it tbh. It’s almost like King wrote it for the screen. I liked it okay. I’d probably give it 3.5/5 if I could. I appreciate the novella length. It probably would’ve been better had I not seen the movie beforehand though. The two are too similar. ... show more
