I love Stephen King but this one fell short. I've read the story before so paying for it again, under a new title is b.s.. The way it's advertised is misleading. I'd love to be able to get my money back.

I was 8 when Stand By Me came out in 1986. I loved that movie when I was 8 and I still love it to this day. I always wish I had such as good of friend as either Gordy or Chris. The ending really sucks and seems so unfair but such is life. I'm glad I got to see the movie before reading this book because, as always, the book is so much better than the movie. I'm thankful having read this book and Stand By Me will forever be one of my true favorites. ... show more

I've never been a fan of Stephen King, however I was intrigued by the movie "Stand by Me". This book is seriously amazing. I fell in absolute love with the writing and couldn't put it down. The emotions that the author elicits are deep and long lasting. As usual any book is far greater than the movie; true in this case, with so much more depth, feeling, and energy. You, the reader, are there with the boys, you know their lifes' struggles, you understand, because you can relate, deeply. The end will have you thinking and pondering for months, years, maybe the rest of your life. Read it. You will not regret it. ... show more

I always loved the movie and I thought the book could be a good read for my 7th grader. I’m so glad I read it before giving it to her because there were some very graphic sexual scenes in the book that aren’t in the movie. I found that part very unnecessary and irrelevant to the storyline.

    • Another oldie but goodie from the Master Story Teller, Stephen King.
This was my third reading of "The Body", over the years since Mr King first published it. One of my favorite reads of all time. It is a novella, (I guess that is what it is called) which I understand means longer than a short story and shorter than a novel. I am quite certain it will not be the last time I read it. If I ever have a chance to see the movie "Stand by Me", the movie which was made based on it, I will also watch it again. Great story from one of America's greatest story tellers ever. . .right up there with Mark Twain and Edgar Allen Poe. ... show more

This book is what the movie Stand By Me is roughly based on. Sadly, I forgot that Stephen King always has that one or those two sex scenes. I purchased this for my son because he loved the movie and we are a family that prefers books. :-) Oh, well, I found out the same thing with Ready Player One...sometimes, the sex scenes written into the books actually make the movie better, who knew? ... show more
