Description

In the vein of poetry collections like Milk and Honey and Adultolescence, this compilation of short, powerful poems from teen Instagram sensation @poeticpoison perfectly captures the human experience. In Light Filters In, Caroline Kaufman—known as @poeticpoison—does what she does best: reflects our own experiences back at us and makes us feel less alone, one exquisite and insightful piece at a time. She writes about giving up too much of yourself to someone else, not fitting in, endlessly Googling “how to be happy,” and ultimately figuring out who you are. This hardcover collection features completely new material plus some fan favorites from Caroline's account. Filled with haunting, spare pieces of original art, Light Filters In will thrill existing fans and newcomers alike.it’s okay if some thingsare always out of reach.if you could carry all the starsin the palm of your hand, they wouldn’t behalf as breathtaking Read more

  • Beautiful!
Format: Kindle
Caroline Kaufman's twitter handle is @itspoeticpoison, but her verse is anything but poisonous. I would give this slim volume - which I have read slowly, rereading many pages - I would give it ten stars if GR had them to give. The words are that beautiful, that haunting, that healing. I know firsthand the cathartic power of writing. To pour something unwanted out of yourself into words. To leave it there, on the page, and walk away. Free, or at least freer than before. These poems progress, each one a little closer to understanding. To wholeness and peace. The result is a satisfying, though emotional, journey. I won't compare Kaufman to other poets. There is no comparison. She's written what only she could write. (Who can ask a writer for more than that?) Light Filters In is wholly original. I suspect many, many young people have found and will find comfort and companionship in these poems. The imagery and language, the movement and beauty, and the emotions so elegantly conveyed herein moved me to compassion. I will keep this one handy on my Kindle, so that I can return to it again and again. ... show more

  • Not really middle schooler appropriate
Format: Hardcover
Maybe I didn’t read the description well enough idk but this isn’t something I would recommend for a middle schooler. I saw some reviews saying their kid that age loved it and not many photos . The entire book is about over coming depression from r@pe . I was looking for something regarding depression but these was too adult themed for my kid . Overall I still gave it 4 stars bc it’s lovely book . I just wish I had a better understanding of it before purchasing it . ... show more

  • Almost guaranteed to connect with you on a personal level
Format: Hardcover
There was nothing to dislike about this book. It went into depth about many things, including many topics that people could find easy to relate to. I would recommend this as my number one choice when coming to poetry books. Very beautifully written, and I'm sure many would think the same.
