  • It already saved me once from a leaking water heater!
Size: Pack of 1
THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG Model BWD-HWA 110 dB Battery Operated Water Alarm, has been an excellent addition to my home safety setup. This water alarm is perfect for placing next to water heaters, next to the dishwasher or laundry room, under kitchen and bathroom sinks, and by AC drain pans. It saved me big from a leaking water heater! The alarm is powered by a 9v battery, which makes it very convenient to install anywhere without worrying about electrical outlets. The 110 dB alarm is loud and ensures that you can hear it from anywhere in the house, giving you peace of mind that you will be alerted to any leaks or water issues promptly. One of the standout features of this product is its extended cable, which allows you to place the sensor separately from the main device. This is incredibly useful for those hard-to-reach spots where leaks are most likely to occur but where placing the entire device might be impractical. Make sure to test it periodically by touching the two sensors with a finger. I also write the date of installation on the battery and change it once a year. With the cost of insurance and labor going up, don't skip on this economical and reliable home protection device! Overall, THE BASEMENT WATCHDOG Model BWD-HWA is a reliable and effective water alarm. It's easy to set up, provides a loud and clear alert, and offers the flexibility to position the sensor in the most critical locations. I highly recommend it for anyone looking to protect their home from potential water damage. ... show more

  • Shame on me. But thank you, Watchdog!
Size: Pack of 1
My home was built in 2000. Unfortunately, the builder used the cheapest plumbing materials they could get. As a result, I experienced an extensive water damage event in 2003. After my home was repaired, I wanted to do something to help protect myself from future issues. So, I got several of these Watchdog Water Alarms and placed them in key locations like the bathrooms, the laundry room, and the kitchen. I've added additional alarms over the years to cover every potential leak spot I could think of. I now have 14 of these alarms in my home. Well... This week, they paid for themselves! I was in my home office, on a conference call, and I heard an unfamiliar noise. I ignored it for a couple of minutes but eventually excused myself from the call so that I could investigate the noise. Within another few minutes, I had tracked it down to the kitchen, then to the cabinet under the sink. When I opened the cabinet doors, the problem was clearly evident. The supply shut off valve to the faucet was spraying a small stream of water. The bottom of the cabinet was wet, but nothing that I couldn't mop up with a few towels. The only casualty was a box of dishwasher detergent. Other than that, there was no harm done thanks to the alarm. Without the alarm, there's no telling how long the leak would have gone or how much damage would have been done. Now that is great, but something else about these alarms amazed me. Having the alarm trigger reminded me that I couldn't remember the last time I had changed the battery. So I picked up every alarm and checked them. The battery in the alarm that triggered had a shelf date of 2011 -- That's 14 years ago! And that means that I hadn't changed the battery since at least 2011. --Shame on me. But the alarm still did its job! As I changed the batteries in all of the alarms, I tested them by placing them on a damp paper towel. Every one of them sounded the alarm. Even the one with a battery dated 2008 (17 years ago). --Double shame on me. ;-) --I've learned my lesson and set myself a reminder task to change those batteries in a few years. So bottom line, would I recommend the Watchdog Water Alarm to a friend? ABSOLUTELY! And without hesitation! ... show more

  • Best investment for preventing potential water issues or disasters.
Size: Pack of 1
These little things could save you a LOT of money. I own my home, and I do everything I can to protect it, and keep it and myself safe. I’ve had previous homes with water issues, and when I saw these I thought “ I’m buying one of these for every area where there is potential for water damage” Put one under any sink, behind every toilet, by your water heater, behind your washer, under your dishwasher and even I few placed strategically under the home where water lines run. Trust me, they are loud enough that you will hear them. They are quite small. (About the size of a pack of ciggies) and they use a 9v battery that will easily last 7-10 years. Just remember to change batteries out about every 5-7 years to be safe. They have multiple ways to use them. You can run the little cables to a specific place, or just set them on the surface under where water may go and your all set. To me, these are about as useful as smoke detectors if not more useful. Water can do a ton of damage if gone unchecked. I little drip can turn into you having to replace a floor, or worse. If you don’t buy something like this to prevent potential damage, it’s on you because these things are cheap enough that there is no excuse and it’s on you when SHTF. ... show more

  • GREAT BUT NEEDS ON/OFF SWITCH!
Size: Pack of 1
This works great as many others have said. Sometimes, the sensing element could be placed away from the box .. like in a hard to access area. Once the alarm sounds, you may need to shut it off ASAP. Especially say you have an elderly person or a tenant who can't reach into wherever the sensor is installed. So it would be even better if they added a simple ON/OFF switch! There is LOTS of space inside to add a switch .. it's like one of those 1970's V8 engines, mostly empty space! I added a switch myself, see photo. ... show more

  • Everyone needs several of these
Size: Pack of 1
Everyone should have several of these . It has saved us from leaks and floods many times . I’ve given them as stocking stuffers and house and apartment gifts for my kids and college apartments. This alarm is super loud. Great near dishwashers -under sinks- behind toilets and refrigerators- next to water heaters-. Beside tubs and showers One 9 volt battery and you’re ready to go. Floods are horrible . This will warn you and save you so much grief, damage and expense. I’ve been using these for at least 30 years . Tried and true, simple and cheap. If you need to silence it quickly when it’s detected water _just unsnap one of the sensors. This thing is fantastic! ... show more

  • Peace of mind
Size: Pack of 1
I have more than one of these. Original sits in a tray that is around the hot water heater as recommended by my plumber. A few years ago it went off to alert (loud beep) us the water tank was leaking (about a year before it was due to be replaced. Lucky we were home!! Bought extra for washing machine and under kitchen sink. Recently noticed a spot of water under bathroom sink so got another. No alerts & no leaks - just sweaty pipe. ... show more

  • Must have! Saved me once in 20+ years
Size: Pack of 1
Used these for many years and an absolute must have! Saved me from a water tank that was failing in the garage. It had been in use so long that I forgot all about it being there! But the noise was so loud it doesn’t let you say “I will deal with it later.” Took me an hour to realize it was the water alarm! Just bought a “new” house and I ordered 5 for all the usual spots. It’s the same unit I first bought at least 20 years ago… nothing has changed. Simple and sturdy. ... show more

  • Excellent value, fair price, and real peace of mind
Size: Pack of 1
The Basement Watchdog water detector is one of those products you hope you’ll never actually need—but you’re really glad it’s there. For the price, this is an excellent value and a smart investment in protecting your home. Setup couldn’t be easier: pop in the battery and place it where water might appear. No apps, subscriptions, or Wi‑Fi required. I tested it with a small amount of water and the alarm is very loud—easily heard from upstairs—which is exactly what you want if something goes wrong. What really stands out is how versatile this detector is. I initially placed it near my sump pump, but it would work just as well by a water heater, washing machine, utility sink, or anywhere a leak could cause damage. Because it’s compact and self‑contained, you can move it around as needed or buy multiple units without breaking the bank. Considering the fair price, solid build quality, and the potential savings from catching a leak early, this is an outstanding value. It’s inexpensive insurance that can prevent a very expensive problem. If you want a simple, reliable, no‑nonsense water alarm that just works and doesn’t overcomplicate things, I highly recommend this one. ... show more
