I've loved the show since 1966. I've long considered season 4 to have the best writing. So this review addressed the "technical" aspects of this product. I just tested the Region 2 Blu-Ray of THE AVENGERS by re-watching "The Town of No Return" for the 4th time in a month. "PERFECT"!!!!! It's not just one thing, it's both. My old 1980s videotape recorded off PBS (apparently, based on a comment from Patrick Macnee some years ago, an ILLEGAL BOOTLEG) had a lot of damage. The 2002 Region 1 A&E DVD was clear. The 2010 Region 2 DVD, someone had "remastered" it again-- and gone too damned far. They cranked the CONTRAST up so high, that whenever you had dark scenes, you COULDN'T SEE any detail! (Shades of the Warner Archive Blu Rays of "HORROR OF DRACULA" and "DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS". 2 discs that drastically need to be redone from scratch.) Well, the 2015 Region 2 Blu-Ray, the picture quality was PERFECT. I might want to try comparing it against the 2002 disc, but it's definitely, infinitely better than the 2010 disc. Oh yeah-- and there's the other thing. It's playing at the CORRECT SPEED. (51:51 -- the Region 2 DVD was 49:47) This, it turns out, is the real problem with PAL DVDs. How bizarre that a technical issue that was such a problem in the early 60s should still exist nowadays. I suspected seasons 2 & 3 might be running a bit fast, but it was just too damned obvious with season 4, which is why I sent that box back... and bought a Region-Free Blue Ray player. BEST $120.00 I spent this year! Now I know I can go after seasons 5 & 6, in the same format! Just today, I sent a message to Studio Canal, URGING them to reissue seasons 2 & 3 in Blu-Ray-- and, do the same with THE NEW AVENGERS. For TV series, it's not about the picture quality-- it's about being able to watch them at the COREECT speed! ... show more

One of my favorite shows from the 60s. I upgraded from DVD to Blu-ray. Definitely see a difference on the early BW eps. Crisper, better contrast. The color ones are on order. I have an Oppo machine that I added an all region circuit board. I have no problems with Region 2 playback in the USA.

    • Perfect Blu-ray Transfer of The Avengers (but you need a region free blu-ray player)
This item is my very first UK import Region Blu-ray disc (this will not play on Blu-ray players sold in the US; you definitely need a region free Blu-ray player). This is an excellent Blu-ray transfer, crisp and sharp picture with crystal clarity. Whatever source they used for this Blu-ray transfer must have been in excellent condition, most likely original film elements. There is no sign of blemishes anywhere on the film. My warm thanks and congratulations to the people who were involved in the making of this product. I already owned the US-Released The Avengers The Emma Peel Collection 2-DVD set. The first DVD in that set is Series 4 - this item is the Blu-ray version of that set. The upgrade from the DVD format is tremendous. Plus, you get the subtitles which was missing from the DVD format. The audio format is the same, just 2.0 channel audio, so there is no upgrade with respect to the audio aspect. There seems to be tons of extras and bonus features which are also great upgrade from the DVD version, which I believe doesn't have any bonus features. I am still enjoying the episodes so I haven't got around exploring the bonus features yet. If you love The Avengers and if you have a region free Blu-ray player, you are going to enjoy this immensely. I didn't have a lot of opportunities to watch The Avengers when I was growing up but I am glad I discovered it later. So far, I listened only the first 6 episodes. but I have good news! 1) This is not only the 1966 season, but these are the COMPLETE 26 episodes with Diana Rigg in B/W for seasons 1965-1966 2) The sountrack is not MONO but STEREO ( PCM 24 bit) 3) The quality is simply AMAZING!!!

Well, arguably two words but as a precursor to every relationship TV show with a strong female lead and charming male lead - think Lucifer, the Mentalist, among many others in recent years, this is still fun to watch to this day.

    • Get A region free player as is in region b. Great set in Blu-ray.
The fabulous Diana Rigg...black and white and she still looks grear. Lots of extras. Came in time.
