Description

HumiChar is an organic, carbon-based soil amendment containing 50% high-quality humic acid and 50% granulated biochar. This combination of material provides the benefit of the quickly available humic acid, and the long-term soil building qualities of the biochar that will last for decades. Both humic and biochar add carbon into the soil and increase microbial activity, resulting in greater nutrient holding in the soil and better processing in the plant. Biochar's primary benefits are to the soil. It lasts decades, working to build the soil profile over time. Humic acid's primary benefits are to the way soil delivers nutrients to the plant. This can be noticed more quickly but does not have as long lasting affect as biochar. HumiChar combines the properties of each material that benefits the soil and the plant, both immediately and over time. The humic acid and biochar in HumiChar is beneficial to all soil types. Both of these organic materials will not cause harm from over application like a fertilizer. They can be applied at any time, in any amount and as often as desired. HumiChar features Dispersible Granule (DG) Technology, which allows particles to disperse when watered. The DG Technology helps the humic acid, and especially the biochar, move past the thatch layer of your lawn or the mulch in your garden bed, and into the soil without any raking, digging, or tilling. Other products with biochar have chunks of organic material that are dusty and messy. These products have to be worked into the soil to reach the root zone and be effective. Apply HumiChar anytime during the growing season to lawns. The general rate of application is 1-4 pounds per 1000 square feet of turf / lawn. Apply more heavily if desired. Grass seed planting and sod Installations are a great opportunity to get HumiChar deep into the soil quickly. After tilling HumiChar into the soil, proceed with planting and sod installation as normal. Apply HumiChar around the plants or work into the soil using roughly 1/2 cup of material per plant base area. Apply more heavily if desired.

  • Turned my anemic grass around where fertilizer did hardly anything.
Size: 40 lb
I have very poor soil that was imported to raise my yard to correct drainage. The trouble is that this imported fill was garbage. Basically hard pan. Grass has always done very poorly. Barely surviving. Fertilizer had minimal affect over the last three years. Was at my wits end. Tried this stuff. BAM lush green lawn for the first time. I went with a heavy application two months apart. My lawn is now at 90% perfection. Somehow this stuff helps the roots absorb fertilizer nutrients. I'm on auto ship with this stuff now. Not cheap, but it turned my backyard around, making it a paradise whereas before it was just an ugly eye sore with anemic grass and thriving weeds. ... show more

  • It takes time
Size: 12 lb
Don’t expect an immediate crop of pristine grass. It helps create the right conditions for a great lawn but I think it will take a few applications before you will see a difference. Helps the soil and results are hard to measure.

Size: 40 lb
While an expensive product, it seems to be working as intended. I can get two applications with a single bag, for my property. Keeping my soil in good condition for my Zoysia is what needs to happen, for me.

  • Southern Sandy Soil Cure
Size: 12 lb
If you live in the South and deal with sandy soil, I want to share something that truly changed my lawn: biochar. It’s not just hype—it works. When we bought our home, our soil was bleeding out nutrients and water faster than I could put them in. I ran soil tests and realized I was throwing money away on fertilizers that couldn’t stick. That’s when I started digging into real solutions—and that’s how I found biochar. Now, I apply it twice a year with the goal of reaching 200 pounds over the next few seasons on our front lawn. It’s an investment—$600 to $800 total—but here’s the thing: biochar lasts 100 years or more in the soil. It locks in nutrients, holds water, and transforms how your soil works. By the time my plan is complete, we’ll likely cut our irrigation needs by 40% and reduce fertilizer use by half—so it ends up paying for itself if you’re willing to be patient and consistent. Here’s what I’ve learned: • Charge the biochar with organic fertilizers—they feed the microbes and bring the biochar to life. • Add micronutrients and macronutrients when applying—it’s like seasoning the soil properly. • Stick with it. Every application improves CEC (cation exchange capacity) and builds the kind of soil plants thrive in. If you’re not sure how much to use, you can use tools like GPT (yes, the AI!) to calculate the right amount based on your lawn’s square footage and your soil goals. If your soil is sandy and struggling, this is one of the most powerful long-term changes you can make. Take your time. Stay consistent. You’ll be amazed at what your lawn can become with healthy soil. **04/15/2025 Update: Added photo of soil profile from a sod plug I pulled from my lawn. Look at the top profile with only 100 pounds added past 18 months! Good bye sand! **8/13/2025 Update: Centipede Grass and full lawn healed now that sandy soil is gone after 20 Months do yourself a favor and invest in biochar/humichar ... show more

  • Improving our soil
Size: 40 lb
We use this in the yard and improve the soil for grass, as well as the flower bed. We had a spot of compacted soil that nothing would grow for quite a while. I sprinkled down Humichar and worked into the soil. Now have plants growing there when everything a few months ago would die.
