Description

Have a blast with this awesome engineering project! Construct an air-powered robotic glove that launches safe foam darts. Learn about pneumatics — technologies that use pressurized air to perform work — and many cool mechanisms as you assemble the blaster from over 100 pieces. After you’ve built and tested your blaster, slide it on and strap it to your wrist. The first pull of the trigger causes the scissor arm to lift up the barrels and launch the first dart. Pull the trigger two more times to launch the next two darts. Grab some additional darts from the reserve clip under your wrist and reload. The blaster is entirely powered by your hand and the amazing pneumatic system — no batteries or motors required! Turn the dial to rotate the two outer launchers for a wider spread. Adjust the location of the wrist strap to fit almost all hands. A full-color, step-by-step manual guides you through assembling and using the blaster and provides fascinating scientific information about pneumatic systems and the physics of air. Compatible with many standard foam darts.

  • Frustrating but it does work
My son is 12 and with some assistance he assembled this. After is was put together it could not fire any bullets. It seemed like when you would pull the trigger, the green pieces known as E7 did not push the pieces known as D1/D2 (connected to the air cylinder)back far enough create pressure. I disassembled and started at steps 65 to see if something was put together wrong. I didn't see anything wrong, assembled and it still did not fix the issue. I then disassembled the arms and the trigger. I believe this was the problem. On the arms I made sure everything moved freely on the gears. It does say in the directions to not fully tighten the screws. When I assembled the trigger I made sure it extended as far forward as I could get it. I then connected the arms and trigger and things felt better. I then started at steps 65 again, and completed the bionic blaster. The difference this time is the trigger had some resistance like it was ready to fire. I tried it, and it worked!!! It also made the nerf "thunk" sound. Time for a beer or six!!! The last quirk is that you may have to push the air cylinder forward if it doesn't shoot. I added pictures so you see the what the trigger looks like fully extended, the start position of D1/D2 before trigger is pulled, the end position of D1/D2 when the trigger is pulled and the last one pushing on the air cylinder if it doesn't shoot after you have it working. I hope this helps those who could not get it to work. ... show more

  • Lots of Moving Parts - Sometimes
We have purchased almost all of the Thames & Kosmos STEM Experiment Kits, and have had good luck putting them together and learning about how each system works. We purchased the Thames & Kosmos Ultra Bionic Blaster STEM Experiment Kit, and the kids in the family were so excited, because they have had NERF guns for years, and saw this STEM kit as an extension of the dart shooting activities. Due to the many parts and intensive instructions to build this model, it took a couple of well-paced and patient evenings to get this model put together. And then it didn't work. We couldn't get the darts to shoot. We took apart the model, followed the instructions again to reassemble it, and we couldn't get the darts to shoot. There was so much disappointment in our kids, and they left the model sitting where they had been working on it for a couple of days, walked away from it and never went back. After a week, there was no further interest and trying, so it went back in the box and into a closet. Maybe, someday, I can bring it back out, disassemble it again, and see where mistakes were made. Until then, it's in a closet. ... show more

  • Fun to assemble by underpowered
It's fun to assemble though probably too much for anyone under 7 or 8. Lots of little parts that need to be trimmed of excess plastic before assembly. Looks awesome. However, the darts barely shoot 6 feet so temper your expectations. They do not compare to an actual nerf gun. Took some fine tuning and adjustments not included in the directions to make it work. ... show more

  • Came with missing/broken parts
This was a Christmas gift from Santa so not an option to return it without explaining that. One of the sheets of parts had a broken part and a missing part. So we encouraged him to keep building it and we’ll see if he can make it work. He’s excited for it to work

  • Assembly required, need small screwdriver, great troubleshooting guide.
Major assembly required and I built it with my son, a small screwdriver is required. The instruction manual is well written and easy to understand. After assembly, only one nerf dart would fire and the device would jam; nor did it shoot very far. In reviewing the video troubleshooting (very well done), it still continued to have the same problem. My son is to use the device a with his imagination. ... show more
