Description

Build, code, and play — with mighty REX! Assemble your own robotic model of the giant, powerful, ferocious Tyrannosaurus rex. Use the handheld controller to command your robot to move around in all directions, light up its eyes, and play sounds, including chowing down on food and even farting! The special Code+Control wireless unit enables you to either directly control REX in real time, or write and save sequences of commands for the robot to perform at the push of a button. No app or separate devices are required! REX makes hands-on STEM learning fun and accessible. First, follow the step-by-step instructions to assemble the robot and controller from 100 pieces using the included screwdriver and decorate your completed dino with stickers. At 11 inches tall and 19 inches long, REX really commands respect! Then, learn the function of each button on the controller and how to combine those functions together into programs for your robot. With two motors and a flexible tail, REX can move in one of two ways: walking or gliding. Put REX into guardian mode and it will use its infrared sensors to identify intruders then unleash a ferocious roar! The process of assembling REX gives you an insider's look at various electrical components found inside many robots and by experimenting with the different commands your robot pal can follow, you'll get a clearer understanding of how robots work!

  • GREAT purchase
My 5yr old at the last minute said he wanted a dino that we could build together, then added “thats a robot”. I was a little skeptical at first but was pleasantly surprised. Parts fit well. Easy to assemble with clear instructions. Be was engaged for about 25 minutes and helped build the legs and installed the motor. I finished assembly in another 20-25 min. He really enjoys it. Whoever thought to out a fart noise on the remote is a genius he spent 30 min just making it fart and laughing his head off. ... show more

  • Excellent project for young minds
This is a work in progress. I can say it's very nicely made and all the pieces were there. I'm having fun with my grandson when he comes. We've got it partially together and i cant wait till we get it completed. We work on it when he stays over with me. Quality time alone is worth the price. Would make a great gift. ... show more

  • grat science toy
This is a great kit for a kid who loves to construct things with their hands and knows how to manipulate code to make things go. This is a very replayable kit as well, and can be rebuilt into various different modifications too, if the builder gets creative.

  • Lots of pieces
This was a bit too complicated for our 9 year old niece. I think it would be great for a child who is really into complicated Lego structures though. Lots of small pieces to assemble.

  • Rawr!
This robot dinosaur has been a complete pleasure to build, play with, and review. The most fun my 9 year old and I have had with an Amazon toy, ever. The Thames & Kosmos STEM robot dino took about 90 minutes to casually put together. All the pieces come labeled and they are easy to tell apart with the instructions included. A Philips screwdriver will be necessary to connect a few pieces (remote control, eyes, battery/chip storage). AND YES, YOU BUILD THE REMOTE CONTROL TOO! Luckily, it's not too complicated to put the break away pieces and most of them click easily in place. The dino does require 6 AA batteries to play with (not included), but once you start with it, it's easy to forget how many it requires. Movement is very easy to control, with rolling and stepping options. Each step can be programed to make the dino do a variety of different actions, like a short dance, or back and forth pacing + roaring to keep the cat away from the plants. This robot dino also has a few voice actions, like a light roar and a heavy roar. They work as advertised, but nothing spectacular. There's a fart sound too, but sounds more like static than anything else. Overall, this is a really fun toy to build and play with. Making new functions is really where we spent over 10 hours playing, but the best part was building it with my 9 year old. What I liked: - Fun to build - Easy instructions (no mistakes!) - Programable actions - Good controls - Robot Dino looks pretty freakin cool What I didn’t like: - 6 AA batteries required - Philips screwdriver needed for a few pieces - The tail doesn't move!!!! (biggest sad point) TL;DR: 5 STARS - Yup yup yup! It meets or exceeds all of my expectations and is high quality, I would purchase it again without hesitation and would openly recommend it to friends. ... show more

  • Very complete kit, it's almost not a toy wit how involved it is, but the final form is very fun.
My 8yo LOVES dinosaurs. He also enjoys RC toys. This dino was a no-brainer as a gift for him. I can't stress enough how important adult interaction is with this kit as there are 100 pieces. My kid has a habit of getting out toys that need some assembly, laying everything out and then back in the box they go, never to be seen again all while losing a few pieces for good measure. This was going to be different. There are a lot of pieces, instructions need to be followed and pieces may need to be deburred when removed from their plastic trees, so saying this is a toy may not be true for all kids (certainly not mine). After a lot of patience, the end product is very fun and rewarding. Sure, he would have rather it come fully assembled to get straight to the 'fun', but I hope assembling this in the way we did gave him a bit more understanding of why patience is important. Overall, this is a really quality kit and should be viewed more as a model than a straight up toy as the assembly process and 'coding' is integral to enjoying the final build. ... show more

  • Great coding toy for young programming minds
This is a great, challenging project for kids who are into building things. I think it is a bit advanced for an 8 year old to tackle alone, so beware that you'll be roping in an adult to help out if you're giving this to a younger child. The pieces are labeled clearly and the instructions are fairly easy to follow for someone who is into building things. It can seem tedious and annoying to someone who doesn't like dealing with small pieces. The finished product, though, is so rewarding to look at and actually is pretty cool to play with. This is a great STEM toy and a great project to bond over with a child who loves dinosaurs. ... show more

  • High Quality – Fun Project
This kit provided the perfect summer afternoon project for our 8-year-old, with a bit of adult help. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, and all the pieces were precisely labeled. It was a straightforward process with no frustration at all. What’s nice is that the building was fun, and you end up with a really entertaining remote control robot which continues to be thoroughly engaging. It definitely exceeded our expectations! ... show more
