  • Great Item…

  • Adequate but should come with free earplugs...
I bought this for my mum during her crafting therapy spree this year following the loss of my grandmother and have since inherited everything into my workroom. During my bout with a certain virus that shan't be named, I tried out the clay stuff. I'm not sure whether the meds or virus was that brutal in draining me of all strength or if this was really that tiring to use but I exhausted myself using this with 10oz of clay. I had the worst time getting the clay to go in. Listen, I'll admit, I'm dumb as hell sometimes, but I actually followed a tutorial for my jaunt into clay and this was like that scene in Disney's Cinderella where the stepsisters are trying to put on the glass slipper. It was like Timon trying to shove Pumbaa to safety when Nala was chasing them. It just wouldn't fit, it wasn't pretty, and no matter how I tried, it just got uglier. But I finally did get it loaded each time. And then. Then came the extrusion process. And all the twisting. And with each twist came this horrendous squeal. Like nails on a chalkboard. I've been sitting here contemplating WD40 as a solution but I'm not sure how it would impact the clay. But I do know I'm not using that unholy beast again unless I can figure out a solution or deign to buy one of the astronomically expensive professional ones. As for cleaning this. Buy a bottle brush, but not one of those all purpose kitchen scrubbing brushes that resemble toilet brushes. get a baby bottle brush wand. that way you can clear the entire cavity and not have other colours pollute your work. I hope this helped somebody. Or at least entertained. ... show more

  • Polymer Clay Play!
This was the first extruder I’ve ever purchased for use with polymer clay. Overall I’m super satisfied. I’ll list the pros and cons below to help anyone on the fence with this item. Cons: It is a pain to clean after each use—but, if you’re working passionately, you’ll likely take that part in stride. The unit squeaks REALLY, REALLY LOUDLY while extruding. Almost to a comical extent—but if you have a can of WD-40 on hand, you’re already prepared to solve that problem if it arises. Pros: Compact and easy to store. Simple to use. Straightforward design, user-friendliness is through the roof. Super, super amazing variety of end plates (featuring different shapes) to choose from and play around with. The possibilities are limitless here—your creative brain with thrive at the potential and new opportunities you’ll be capable of with this tool in hand! Overall: Extremely happy with this purchase. Would definitely recommend to anyone starting out with polymer clay—it provides new ways to play around and create, AND it is one of the best prices I found when searching for an extruder. ... show more

  • Value-priced extruder for polymer clay
I use the extruder for polymer clay so if you are buying it for fondant, this review may not reflect its usefulness. The price was the main factor in selecting this extruder. As a beginning polymer artist, I don't want to invest in more expensive tools, so this was a $mart choice on my part. This extruder is sufficient for my needs at this time and works well enough. Two things about this extruder are not to my liking. First, it comes with 20 stamped metal discs. There is a basic set of shapes. You probably could use discs from other, similar extruders in it. However, they discs are less sturdy (thinner) than I expected and one side is rougher than the other where the shape was punched out and not flattened completely. In other sets I've seen the discs are totally smooth on both sides. Secondly, it does not screw as smoothly as I would want. If you have arthritis, this may be hard on your hands. I feel that some sort of lubricant could be applied but haven't tried it yet. The endcap screw threads can accumulate clay and need to be cleaned carefully. ... show more

  • Use it for Polymer Clay
Works great with polymer clay which is why I bought it. Plenty of dies to use. Only draw back is it sqeeks when you turn the handle. Recommend it. Update: Used it for about 2 months and it broke. It would be fair to say I used it only for polyclay which is not its original purpose. I purchased a new one but I make surey clay is conditioned really well and I don't fill it as much. So far so good. ... show more
