Description

Tekton impact drive sockets have two size markings—both a high-visibility laser marking and a permanent stamped marking. The interior well of the socket extends fully into the socket, which allows for better fastener engagement in more situations. Each socket works with both friction ring and detent pin anvils. Smooth walls without grooves support friction ring engagement, and a detent pin hole on one side allows you to decide whether to engage the pin. Radiused corners on the socket prevent fastener round-off by applying force to a fastener's flat sides, rather than its corners. Part by part, we choose the best combination of steel alloys, heat treating specifications, and forming processes to meet the highest performance requirements. All pieces in this set have a corrosion-resistant manganese phosphate coating. This set includes socket rail organization with twist-to-lock clips.

Skipped sizes in cheaper sets are infuriating. My last impact set, a house brand set from a "Northern" midwest-based chain didn't have an 18mm socket, which is fine if you never need to remove the blades from a John Deere garden tractor or do anything on the underside of a modern Ford product. With this set, that won't be a problem. There's an old saying in Tennessee--they have it in Texas, I'm sure it's in Tennessee--it says skip sizes once, shame on you, skip sizes twice, shame on... you won't skip sizes again. I received these only a short time ago, so I haven't had a chance to break every one of them in, but they seem decent to me. They're heavy and relatively thick-walled like you'd expect from impact sockets, and each one has its size etched in easy-to-read paint on one side, and embossed on the other side, where it can never wear off. The blow-molded case seems to be made strongly and feels like it should offer decent durability for portable use. Unfortunately, it is also extremely heavy when full of sockets, although I don't know what I was expecting as it is a very large set. Also, if you've ever opened one of these blow molded cases upside-down and had everything on what was supposed to be the bottom half dump itself out, this one is prone to the same. Take a sharpie and write this side up/down on the appropriate side. If I were shopping again, I'd wish for the exact same set, except split across two cases so they're easier to manage. (Metric and standard would be a logical split, but I think a split between deep and shallow+accessories might be even better.) I'm just a home-gamer who works on cars, small engines, and other equipment for myself and close friends/family. I'm not in the professional use category, but the lifetime warranty and Tekton's easy replacement procedure does inspire confidence. (Of course, if you're making a living, I'm sure the Snap-on truck offers "I'm 30 minutes away, I'll be there in 10" warranty service and other advantages I can barely fathom as a non-pro.) I use these sockets professionally everyday as a GM Technician. They are very durable at an affordable price with the same, if not better, warranty as the tool trucks. This is a very high quality set, I did a lot of research before purchasing and this specific set of 1/2 impact sockets from TEKTON is the gold standard. Holding the TEKTON 24mm impact in one hand and the same 24mm from another “tool truck alternative” type of company and the weight and quality of the TEKTON is head and shoulders above the others. Very nice set, will need to keep them oiled to prevent rust. I bought the "Used, like new" option, simply because the lead time on the new option was about 4 weeks. When they arrived, I had two 21mm shallow sockets but no 20mm. I ordered another 20mm shallow socket for about $8.50. Annoying, yes, but still not a deal breaker. I did not contact the seller or company so I cannot make a judgement on customer service. This set, along with my DeWalt 911B 1/2" compact impact are going to make mechanic jobs at work and home vehicle repairs so much easier. Exactly what I wanted, minus the missing 20mm socket, so I give it 5 stars. Edit: 6 months later and I still love this set. I enjoy nuts and bolts type jobs at work now. I like this set so much that I ordered the Tekton SAE 3/4" drive, 7/8"-2" set and a 1/2"-3/4" adapter so that I don't destroy the drive side of the bigger sockets with my new DCF900B DeWalt 1/2" impact.
