I picked this up to replace my too-soft western-style mattress on my bedframe. I'd ordered a smaller one for my nephews to use when they visit. I was surprised at how comfortable it was given the western propensity for thick mattresses and thought I'd give a Japanese mattress a try. This one was described as "extra thick" but it would not meet the western standard for that. I ordered a tatami mat separately to offer some support on the bed frame. I ended up needing to put a couple of blankets over the bars as I could feel them through the mat and mattress. But, since I was using it in a manner different than intended, I'm not reducing my rating. When I placed this directly on the floor, I found it quite comfortable, as I did when I covered the bars. There was a small adjustment period to getting used to the new, thinner mattress, but I've really enjoyed it since. I use a queen fitted sheet on it. I found that it really helped my upper back pain and it's even helping me sleep on my back. Be warned, this type of mattress does require more care than a standard mattress, including airing it out in the sun. Because I live in an apartment, I had to get creative making a device to hold the mattress on my balcony. But, it's worth it in my opinion. Extremely happy!

Granted, I got one of the larger sizes of this futon. I anticipated it being a bit more of a challenge to find a place to put it but that turned out not to be a problem, in part because this is super easy to fold up and stash away without it losing shape or comfort. It’s also far more comfortable than I was anticipating because I’m so used to thinking that one needs 10” of temperpedic foam in order to be comfortable while I sleep. As it turns out, one can be quite comfortable and sleep quite soundly on a futon such as this that provides enough cushion and support to keep your bones off the floor and more in line. My body actually feels much better since I’ve started sleeping regularly on this mat and I haven’t really made any other changes that would account for that. For that reason and a few others, I highly recommend this!! A++

Could be better considering the price. Pros: Good for heat retention, thick, water-resistant. Cons: Not good for hot places, not as breathable or high quality as cotton made futons.

The media could not be loaded. I seriously adore this mattress topper. Our bed is new but very very firm. We have been waking up with sore bodies and stiff backs for months to the point we were thinking we needed to get another mattress. I saw this one that was advertised as something that could work as a floor mattress, a futon mattress or a bed topper and thought it would be worth a try - to see if we could somehow salvage our new but awful bed. It is LIFE CHANGING. It immediately made our rock hard bed transform into the most luxurious pillow top ever. Both my husband and I are in love with it, we wake up feeling more refreshed and not sore at all. It did not arrive with any harsh chemical smells and fluffed up immediately. It’s soft and does not get hot as you sleep. Our deep pocket sheets fit easily over the topper and our thick mattress. If you are on the fence at all, I HIGHLY recommend it! It’s been a dream and now we are no longer thinking of getting a new mattress. High quality, well made and perfection!

This mattress is comfortable and worked well as a mattress pad for an uncomfortable caper bed. Could also be used instead of an air mattress for temporary beds for guests. Recommended!

This is a very thick and comfortable futon mattress. It can be used as a mattress topper or just a roll out mattress on the floor. It has smooth and cool feeling fabric material. Its very thick and actually provides a pretty good sleep with the support it provides.
