I read like a thousand reviews to try to find the best floor mattress. Because ppl seemed to complain about the thickness of them I ordered the ‘extra thick’ version of this one and even then I thought to manage my expectations. In my opinion this one is perfect. I’m laying on it right now on the floor and it’s like a firm version a normal mattress. I can tell i’m on the floor but like I said I know these things weren’t make you believe you are not. It was fine to sleep on my side on it and I have some bony shoulders. It has zero smell, didn’t have to let it rest/fill up with air for 24 hours fabric is great, packaging was easy. I’m just gonna roll it up and put it in a closet and hopefully find a bag in Ikea or something that can fit into. I’m planning on using it for a long time so for me it was worth the money too.

I picked this up to replace my too-soft western-style mattress on my bedframe. I'd ordered a smaller one for my nephews to use when they visit. I was surprised at how comfortable it was given the western propensity for thick mattresses and thought I'd give a Japanese mattress a try. This one was described as "extra thick" but it would not meet the western standard for that. I ordered a tatami mat separately to offer some support on the bed frame. I ended up needing to put a couple of blankets over the bars as I could feel them through the mat and mattress. But, since I was using it in a manner different than intended, I'm not reducing my rating. When I placed this directly on the floor, I found it quite comfortable, as I did when I covered the bars. There was a small adjustment period to getting used to the new, thinner mattress, but I've really enjoyed it since. I use a queen fitted sheet on it. I found that it really helped my upper back pain and it's even helping me sleep on my back. Be warned, this type of mattress does require more care than a standard mattress, including airing it out in the sun. Because I live in an apartment, I had to get creative making a device to hold the mattress on my balcony. But, it's worth it in my opinion. Extremely happy!

Granted, I got one of the larger sizes of this futon. I anticipated it being a bit more of a challenge to find a place to put it but that turned out not to be a problem, in part because this is super easy to fold up and stash away without it losing shape or comfort. It’s also far more comfortable than I was anticipating because I’m so used to thinking that one needs 10” of temperpedic foam in order to be comfortable while I sleep. As it turns out, one can be quite comfortable and sleep quite soundly on a futon such as this that provides enough cushion and support to keep your bones off the floor and more in line. My body actually feels much better since I’ve started sleeping regularly on this mat and I haven’t really made any other changes that would account for that. For that reason and a few others, I highly recommend this!! A++

I ordered this king-sized Japanese futon mattress to be used on a tatami mat or futon frame for sleeping. This mattress is meant to be rolled up when not in use, and can be especially helpful in tight spaces. This futon mattress is made entirely of synthetic materials, sadly, which is obviously unsustainable and problematic. The cost of this mattress is significant considering its completely synthetic materials. The outer fabric is 100% polyester and the fill is a combination of polyester and polyurethane. This mattress came compressed in plastic within a large box and expands when freed. It is rollable for easier storage, but this large one is nearly the size of a regular king mattress and still takes quite a bit of space when folded or rolled for storing. It can be easily set up on a tatami mat or futon frame for firm support. It appears some people use it on top of a regular mattress as well, though I've never seen that before. This is a fairly comfortable futon mattress with its extra thickness, although I would definitely prefer more natural fabric and fill.

This is a very comfortable futon. It’s well made. The fiber is 100% polyester. It’s soft and cushy. It’s about as thick as a pillow, but much more firm. It was shipped in a large box and just folded over one time, so once I laid it flat it was ready to use. Didn’t really need fluffing. Each side is sewn with a large diamond pattern, but it’s not sewed through from front to back, so it’s not matted down. All the stitching is quite secure. I use it as a mattress topper on my extra twin bed. And then when the grandkids come over, we just move it to the floor. I’ve slept on it on the floor, too, and you don’t feel like you’re sleeping on the floor, just a comfy bed!
