The magnet is very strong, and should not come off unintentionally. Actually requires being slid off as opposed to pull straight off to come loose. (it just so happens that my phone case already had a circular magnet for use on a bicycle mount, and it was the exact size of this this circular magnet.). The addition of a strap connected to the slot in the base mount to facilitate attaching to a pants belt prevents the elastic strap from sliding down your leg if you need to have it attached while you are running. This should’ve been included in the original design, even if it cost another couple of dollars it would’ve been worth it. I was easily able to adapt one, and as far as I can tell, the set up is ideal. The entire arrangement is pretty light and well-made. The pivot attachment is identical to what you would find on a GoPro or other action camera mount, and it allows the iPhone 16 Pro Max to pivot to a perfect viewing position while seated. The elastic is sturdy enough and is backed with hook and loop to facilitate different tightness of the strap around your thigh. Magnet is very strong …works great in the airplane. Even if don’t regularly use phone or tablet in airplane …it’s worth having in the airplane so if you do need to use them it will keep them hands free.

Received this product today and was very happy with how it felt on my thigh. It came with two magnets which was easy to mount to my iPad case. The quality of the magnet was amazing and the strap is very comfortable. I look forward to wearing this on my next flight. The only reason it did not receive five stars is because the magnet works too well and is a little tricky to remove once connected to the leg strap. ... show more

I’ve been using the TECHO Magnetic Pilot Kneeboard for iPad and tablets, and I have to say—it’s seriously impressive. From the moment I unboxed it, the quality felt solid. The magnetic hold is far stronger than I anticipated; once your tablet is attached, it stays put without sliding or shifting, which is huge whether you’re navigating in a cockpit, using it in a vehicle, or even just going hands-free at home. The strap system is another highlight. It’s comfortable and secure on your knee, and it doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy at all. The way it distributes weight makes longer sessions much easier on your leg, and it stays stable without constant adjustments. The design also allows you to position your tablet at a functional, easy-to-read angle, which is incredibly convenient. On top of that, the kneeboard works with a variety of tablet sizes, so it’s versatile enough for multiple devices. If I had to suggest one improvement, it would be the Velcro strap length. Right now, it works perfectly for knee use, but if you want to use it creatively—like attaching it to other objects or mounting it in different setups—a slightly longer Velcro strap would make it much more versatile. That’s really the only minor quibble I have. Overall, this kneeboard is practical, well-built, and reliable. It has a strong grip, secure attachment, and thoughtful design, making it perfect for pilots, drivers, or anyone needing hands-free tablet use.     • Not suitable for real cockpit use - weak magnet, too tall, and unstable
I’m a private pilot and bought this hoping it would be a simple magnetic kneeboard solution for my iPad Mini / iPad Air. Unfortunately, after trying it in actual flight, I would not trust it in the cockpit. The biggest issue is the high profile. The iPad sits too far above your knee, which makes it awkward to use with a yoke. It also makes the whole setup wobble during flight because the tablet is sitting too high instead of being stable against your leg. The angle adjustment sounds like a good idea at first, but in real use it doesn’t work well. You basically have to choose one angle from the beginning when you stick the metal plate to your iPad. The plate has to go somewhere near the bottom of the iPad, otherwise there isn’t enough clearance from your knee to adjust the angle. But once the plate is placed near the bottom, using a different angle becomes almost impossible because the iPad’s weight overpowers the strap and the whole thing becomes unstable. Most importantly, the magnet is too weak for an iPad. I tried it with both an iPad Mini and an iPad Air, and the magnetic force just was not enough to hold either one securely. During one bumpier landing, the whole setup came off completely. That is not something I want happening in a cockpit. Overall, this feels like what you get for $25: a cheap strap with a weak magnet and a tall, awkward design. The build quality also feels cheap and flimsy. I would not recommend it for pilots who actually plan to use it in flight. ... show more
