Pawls don't release from gears properly. In unloading mode pawls stick to gears and I must pry them free with a screw driver. All of this happened the first time I used the come-along. Had two 'big red' 4-ton come alongs break, so I tried this 5-ton. The cable is thicker/stronger, and unit has not yet broken so far. Be prepared to file off all the sharp edges and tape over the bent cotter pins that are used to secure the varied pins (pulley wheel, swivel, etc) since they can stick out and cut you up. The tension spring on cable reel is not centered, so you need to use your finger to assist the ratchet lock to engage while cranking. The crank arm also rubes the sprocket wheels, so releasing the cable requires serious pulling and/or tools. It does work so far, but FAR from ideal and with shoddy quality control. ... show more

Let’s start with the build of the product. The handles are punched out of sheets and the edges are razors. The one time I’ve used it I was fearful of cutting my hands open. Would barely free spool out had to fight it cause the unit was warped. Once I put a slight load on the unit it stoped locking when I cranked. So I had to put my fingers in harms way to get it to lock. I barely had any load on it. This unit left me in a pinch and I had to use a 3,000 pound ratchet strap that had more pulling power then this come along. Very disappointed. ... show more
