  • The Koa is an over-priced guitar that you will absolutely love to play
$1000 for a mini guitar with layered Koa back and sides? It’s way too much. I could have spent a bit more for an all solid-wood guitar. Even the Martin 000-10e is all solid wood and made in Mexico like the Taylor. But every time I picked one up, I loved it. It’s an over-priced Taylor that sounds great, and you’ll want to play. ... show more

  • This is a great guitar
This guitar sounds so freaking awesome, I cannot stand it! When I first got this guitar, I was disappointed because it had varnish issues that made it seem like it was not a $1,000 guitar, but a B-stock guitar. I was set on returning it. The guitar played and sounded nice that first day. A few days later, I visited Guitar Center, and I found that varnish issues are typical for this guitar. Still disappointed in this. And the more I play this guitar, the better it sounds. I will say that this guitar sounds so damn good! ... show more

  • Absolutely LOVE
My husband bought this guitar for our 5 year anniversary (the theme was Wood - how fitting)!! Since I am a beginner I REALLY enjoyed that this guitar was smaller and even came with a gig case that I found very stylish and unique. I am progressing SO much in my playing - this is a great guitar for those who are starting out- just be sure to get it "set up" - having the "action" lowered at my local music store made it even easier to play. This is something my guitar teacher told me to do or otherwise I wouldn't have known any of that but it made a huge difference. ... show more

  • I've always loved the sound of a good acoustic
Here, for a change, is a non-expert review (kind of). I've been playing for decades, but almost exclusively on electric guitars. I've always loved the sound of a good acoustic, but hated playing them. Too big and boxy, too hard to play Iron Maiden solos--you get it. This guitar is the perfect size for me, no grinding into the rib cage, and the playability is ridiculous. The action is very easy, perfect for solo picking, plus it strums like a champ. The sound that comes out of the guitar is the real story, though. I don't know how they did it, but acoustically it sounds like a much bigger guitar--one that happens to have amazing tone. The electronics are very good and the plugged-in sound is outstanding. I tried a friend's mahogany version and almost bought one of those but wound up ordering the koa version after reading reviews. Glad I did--as good at the mahogany GS Mini was, I think it's worth the money for the koa version--it just has that extra texture to the sound, more depth and sparkle at the same time. Materials and build are top-notch and it even comes with a really awesome rigid softcase. This is a ridiculous value for seven and a half bills. Highest recommendation. ... show more

  • but I think it's still a good looking guitar but I think it's still a good looking guitar
Bought this guitar to have something to play while working for a year in Kuwait. I was nervous having it sent through the mail, but I was surprised at the amount of packaging it arrived in. The guitar was in it's padded case and then molded foam was packed around that and there wasn't a ding on the guitar when I unpacked it. I didn't get the prettiest top, but I think it's still a good looking guitar. Pros: 1. This thing is loud. I played it in my room and was afraid I was annoying the neighbors. 2. Great tone. It's different than my Martin D-15, but I really like it's sound! 3. Very attractive wood. Cons: 1. I have massive hands and this guitar is a little hard for me to play, but I'll get used to it. (Not the guitar's fault!) 2. Strings. I believe they are mediums and I prefer lights. Easy fix. ... show more

  • Worth every penny🤘
Worth every penny. Do yourself a favor if you’re inexperienced; Do not buy a “beginner” or low cost guitar. This thing travels really well too. We full time RV; space is at a premium, so are the items we choose to pack.

  • Big Surprise from the Mini
The Taylor GS Mini-e Koa was a special surprise. I was not expecting it to live up to its reviews. I am a long time keyboard and guitar player. I have had many guitars in my lifetime. Again this one surprise me. I will start from the beginning. It arrived on time. No broken parts. Its was shipped by UPS. It is packed in a medium sturdy box. Inside the box is the guitar in its own Taylor beige color case. I don't really like the beige color. It gets dirty fast, and it attracts lots of hungry eyes. None the less it came with a soft case which I was not expecting. The guitar of course was detuned down 1 octave, for shipping purposes. I quickly tune it. Also the aroma of the wood was very pronounce in a good way. It smells new and like it just came out of the "guitar oven". I played a few chords and I was happy to hear a much louder sound then expected. The bass strings were medium sounding, and the treble strings ring out. The body size is perfect, and fret board is large enough for me. In fact I thought the body size would be smaller. Playing in the higher frets was also good and clear, especially with a "capo". I also played it through a acoustic amp. Great sound, warm, clear, easy on the ears. I can almost hear other songs when I play it. It does sound better through an amp. The only draw back with the guitar jack is that it is sharing the same spot as the 9 volt battery compartment. It also shares the same spot as the guitar strap button. Bad idea. It makes it almost impossible to use most leather straps. Word of advice, don't leave the guitar jack in when you are not playing. It drains the battery. When you plug the jack in, it essentially turns on the pickup. You don't have any display or lights on board to know that. You can take a peek inside the "f" hole and see the little red light on. Also the guitar does not come with an onboard tuner, no big deal for me. This is a well made guitar. Some people have changed the tuners, and the bridge and so on, but I found it ready to play out of the box. Pros: light weight, good sound, good price, comes with case. and one 9 volt battery already installed. Cons: guitar jack, strap button and battery compartment all share the same real estate. Function control buttons on body does not have description. No warranty info, or user manual of any kind. For all of these cons, I drop a star rating. ... show more
