Description

Tamiya Originally released a special version of the R/C 4WD racing Buggy hotshot in 1986. This famous machine is set for a return as the Super hotshot and features modern improvements while keeping the basic layout of the original. Distinctive external features such as the stylish silver body and rear wing, yellow oil dampers, and spiked tires with gold metal-plated wheels have also been kept. The chassis maintains original features of the super shot, including the durable ABS monocoque frame, roll cage, and under Guard. At the same time, Full ball bearings minimize friction loss as power from the Horizontally-mounted motor is transmitted to all four wheels via dog-bone Type drive shafts. 4-Wheel double wishbone suspension is equipped with oil dampers which allow 3 adjustable spring tensions to match track conditions. In addition, a gt-tuned motor (25T) provides plenty of power for dynamic off-road driving.

This is exactly as described, genuine Tamiya Supers Hotshot. My expectation was low, thinking it would arrive in a beat up box, missing parts, and not genuine at all, but I was wrong.     • Ready for the challenges of the track, and the shelf
The Super Hotshot is what the original Hotshot should have been, but came too late. The original had mono shocks for both the front and back suspension. The Super Hotshot corrects this issue with 1 shock for each axle, as God intended. This kit was only produced briefly from 1986 to 1987, so it was very rare to see one in the backyards and school lots of Reagan era America back in the day. For this reason it's a very desirable collectible, and will look stunning on the shelf with it's classic silver paint and spiky track tires. A couple of recommendations I have are to buy extra tires to preserve the stock spikes if you are actually going to run the car, and wait till dry weather to keep less mud in the crevasses of the body. Also, pick up a stronger server for steering (10 k-grams or higher) because the high torque of the 4 wheel drive will require some stronger force when turning a corner. ... show more

    • Item not in original factory shrink wrap
After opening the box (that was slightly crushed during shipping), I was pleasantly surprised to find all parts to be present in the box. Better packaging would prevented damage to the item. The only disappointing thing was that it was not in factory shrink wrap.

Building this kit brought back a lot of fond memories - like others, I too was an R/C fanatic as a kid back during the 80s and early 90s. I was a bit of a Tamiya fanboy at the time (Wild Willy, Blackfoot, Boomerang, and one of those little 1/24 scale Porsche 962C pocket racers) and had always wanted the Hotshot or Super Hotshot, but I just didn't have the cash for everything back then. Bought this Super Hotshot, spent about 13 hours of labor over the course of a week, and had a completed build. The only problem I encountered during the build was me breaking one of the the e-clips that are used for building the pistons on the suspension (I forgot how brittle they could be), but Tamiya always provides some spare parts, so I didn't make that mistake again. Everything else went together perfectly as planned. Painting/completing the body and driver figure seemed to take the longest, but I suspect that's because it's no fun waiting for paint to dry. This kit did not come with the ESC. It seems only those packaged for sale in the US include the Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC (i.e. those coming directly from Japan do not include the ESC). If I would have realized that up front (my fault for not reading closely enough), I may have gone with a domestic seller, but it's really no biggie. Price was hard to beat and I was able to find the same Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC for a great price. I've only done a bit of test driving in the garage so far (still tons of melting snow in the backyard) but even at that it's a lot of fun to drive. It's only going to be more fun as the snow finally melts and things start to dry out. ... show more

    • Tamiya brings back the fun !!
I never got one of these back in the 80's so i am very happy to get a couple of these rerelease versions. Both my kits came with the Tamiya TBLE-02S ESC which is a nice welcome. The kit is top quality as you'd expect from Tamiya. Full ball bearings and a nice motor for a change. Will be enjoying the week building this one. Should be even more fun than the Hotshot as it has shocks on all 4 corners. -mike ... show more

I love the Tamiya car kit this is not about having the fastest car or out of the box ready to run this is a Hobby it's about building the car and knowing everything about the car inside and out. I received my super hotshot a week ago, I could tell the quality of the kit. Tamiya has always been a good company so I knew it would be good. Tamiya Always have parts available for any problems you may have. This thing is awesome for the money. About 4 days after work to build the hot shot. Good illastertions in the manual, just need to take your time with the build. I would defiantly recommend this kit. ... show more
