  • Big fun in a yellow box
It's hard to say whether putting everything together or driving it around is more fun. I actually really enjoyed reading through the instructions, finding the parts for each step, and building the main components for this truck. The instructions are very clear, and broken apart into smaller, manageable steps. From start to finish, It took me about 20 hours in total, broken apart across a few days, to get the truck assembled, painted, and running. About 6 of those hours were just working on the body and outer details, though. This kit contains no electronics, so you'll need to provide the following: * Radio system (transmitter and receiver) * Steering Servo * Electronic Speed Control (ESC) * Battery and charger (plus batteries for the transmitter) You'll also need a Phillips-head screwdriver, paint for the body, and I'd recommend some CA glue for the tires. I outfitted my Lunch Box with a Hobbywing WP-1060 Brushed ESC, a 27T Axial motor, a Traxxas 2076 servo, and the cheapest FlySky radio system I could find that didn't look ridiculous. It's worth noting that if you're going to run with a LiPo battery, you will need to modify the battery compartment to make it fit. I took a dremel to a small plastic area, and now I can fit a soft-case battery in there no problem. It will not fit a hard-cased Duratrax battery without *really* forcing it in there, which just seems like a bad idea. With this setup, I can blip the throttle to make it wheelie, or I can ease into the throttle to get it bounding across the field. I've seem videos of people putting super-fast brushless motors in these things, which seems kind of... silly. Either way, I absolutely recommend gluing the tires into place, because even at regular speeds, a few sharp turns and they start to roll off the rims. All around, a really enjoyable build, and lots of fun to drive. It's not graceful by any means, but by keeping the battery down low, and having a wide stance, it really doesn't tip over as often as you may think. ... show more

  • Classic RC Fun
This kit from Tamiya is plastic, but doesn't break. I've rolled it, jumped it, crashed it, ran head on into solid objects, and more. I had to replace the servo but that was a cheapy that doesn't even come with this kit. Get a radio/receiver combo, some NiMH batteries, good servo with a good Servo Saver - Build it all and have FUN! Oh yeah, and just when you thought the hype was over, all the fun was had, do yourself a favor and put the Sport Tuned motor in it and wake her up again! She'll stand up on the wheelie bar with her fronts up in the air and take off down the dirt track! WANT EVEN MORE? Swap it up to LiPO with a brushless system and then think about what you have done... With that set up you'll want metal trailing arms for the fronts and better suspension. Why am I telling you all this? This RC is capable, fun, and has plenty of spare parts for sale on the net. Buy this and build it with you kid, buy it and build it for yourself. You can't go wrong with the Lunchy here. Wonderful product from one of the best RC companies around. Thank you, good night. ... show more

  • Even A 6-year old Can Play it
Me and my 6 year old assembled this baby up within a day. Thats one day faster than assembling the Hotshot. It was so simple to put together, we had it running in no time. Slide the battery in, turn on the remote, then turn on the unit and the Lunchbox does its signature wheelies whenever you throttle it up fast. But dont expect it to turn as long as the front end is up, its something one has to think about before having the unit do this specially if there is an obstruction close ahead. The 540 motor is just right for this unit. Give it a faster motor, the vehilce wont be able to handle the turns too well which is what happened to my daughter who gave the newly painted pink body a couple of scratches on the top side of the cover. But its all good, its all fun. Teaches her self control in easing up on the throttle and turns. Speaking of turns, with the big tires, the turning radius is much wider than the buggies, of course. Ample space is needed to negotiate good turns. Done at a slower-than-max speeds, the Lunchbox can do drifts and 180 turn arounds...just make sure you cement glue the tires to the wheels first. If i only had the money when i was a kid, i would have gotten one of these...after getting the AE RC10. ... show more

  • Building it was fun, as it always was
It's been over 20 years since I've driven an RC car. Got nostalgia and purchased based on 20 year old knowledge. I should've researched more before purchasing. This is archaic engineering. Building it was fun, as it always was. Waited a couple more weeks for the Futaba radio to come and found out that either the speed control which came with the car or the Futaba radio wasn't recognizing the motor. Steering worked but no forward/reverse. So, I ordered a new speed control, and it still didn't work. I then ordered a fly sky radio with new receiver. It worked right away. But then the steering wheel became stuck. What a pain it's been. Should've ordered a ready to run model. Would've cost nearly half of the $300 I spent on this car now. You cannot change the camber (?) on the front wheels. The camber changes as you compress the suspension. So the wheels are splayed out at the top (negative camber?) a lot when it's sitting still. As the suspension compressed the wheels start looking like those rice rockets you see on the streets with their wheels virtually out at 45 degree angles. This setup also means the wheels also get extreme toe-in when going in reverse, making reverse very difficult to do. Driving it is fun however, when it worked for those 2 runs I made. You can order wheelies on demand. The batteries now last so much longer than the ones from the old days. I have 2 - 7.2V, 3200s. Fun. But what a pain it was to get working. ... show more

  • Product should include what it says it includes.
Dislike is that the product says, ESC which is the electronic speed control is included & it was not included in the package.
