Description

This re-release version of the Monster Beetle assembly kit features a number of updates while keeping the basic layout of the original off-road car released in 1986. It features a realistic customized Beetle body depicted in tough polystyrene resin, with metal-plated parts supplied in the kit to add the finishing touch for handles and headlight frames. A resin driver figure is the icing on top of the cake! Tough Space Frame Chassis This hardy model's rear-wheel drive chassis is based around a durable ABS space frame to withstand all-action off-road driving. 4-wheel independent suspension uses CVA oil dampers, and has double wishbone front and trailing arm rear setups. Superlative cushioning and grip are provided by 130mm-diameter, 58mm-width lug pattern pin spike tires on flashy gold color plated wheels. 1986 was the year Tamiya became really popular with the release of iconic RCs like the monster Beetle. As a child from a lower middle class home all my father could afford was the Grasshopper which was Tamiya’s remedy for people who wanted to experience the joy of building, rebuilding and running these things literally until the wheels fell off. All I could do was drool at the sight of my friends who owned all the best. Tamiya did a great thing by re releasing these ever loved products so the ones who couldn’t afford them in 1986 could get a second chance at capturing the Nostalgia that comes with just opening the box. 5 stars for the nostalgia factor. Things I didn’t like was Tamiya did not use blister packs to showcase the parts in the box like they did in the 80’s or did they use the original decals with authentic racing sponsers instead using generic ones. However that being said I took the challenge and am piecing together parts to make a period accurate piece from the net. So I am having twice as much fun! That being said, the suspension lacks the movement and durability the newer ones today offer so be ready to modify to suit to your preference. Still after 30 years this kit is a blast to build and will last for years to come. Even though it lacks the technology the newer cars have you can still modify it to blow anything away. Worst product ever! Super frustrating. transmission tolerances so loose that it is a challenge to keep it engaged. Gear also stripped out after about an hour of very tame use. Bought a whole new set of gears and it still doesn’t work! Want to guess how demotivated my son is right now? Time we all spent building and troubleshooting vs reward of driving… almost infinity.
