Description

Designed with professional divers in mind--thanks to its water resistance to 300 meters (984 feet)--the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Calibre 5 automatic watch for men is as fashionable in the boardroom as it is on the wakeboard. The 42.5mm wide (1.61-inch) stainless steel watch case is topped by a unique dual bezel that's composed of fixed black aluminium/steel ring and unidirectional turning bezel in fine-brushed steel with polished studs and minutes scale, which includes engraved numeral with black varnish and a luminous dot at 12 o'clock. The blue dial face includes silver stick hour markers, luminous baton hands (with seconds hand), and a day-and-date function at 3 o'clock. Other features include a caseback engraved with diver decoration, an anti-reflective scratch- resistant sapphire crystal, and a triple-link stainless steel bracelet band with alternating fine-brushed and polished finishes.

  • A classic watch
After looking at dozens of designs, despite saying that I wasn't going to own another Tag, I still came back. For me, the classic look of this sports watch is the primary appeal, and it won't disappoint. It has a very sturdy and solid case, the crystal has stood up to over a year of daily wear without a single scratch and when people notice it on my wrist it almost always generates a compliment (heh - not that that should matter right?) Only two cons: It's heavy. I'm small wristed and it took me a month to become used to the size and weight. I'm fine with it now, but I occasionally get it caught on a jacket cuff and am reminded how big it is. It runs fast. My fault for not doing more research - I thought automatic watches kept as good or better time than quartz. Not so. I'd say this watch gains about a minute over the course of a month. I suppose that's better than losing a minute, but I was still a little frustrated to find it needed any adjustment at all. However, never needing another battery makes up for it, and I do get a kick out of listening to the inner workings of the automatic movement when I put the watch to my ear. But if keeping precise time matters to you - go with the non-automatic version. You'll even save some $$. Oh BTW, don't freak out when you open the box and the day-date dial appears to be in French - it's a bilingual watch. Simply forward the day to the version you want and it will stay with that language choice. I nearly sent the watch back before I finally figured this out - it isn't mentioned in the instructions! ... show more

  • Well worth the money
This is a beautiful watch and I'm very happy with it. Take note, this model, with the day-date, is almost impossible to find. I was told by one chain retailer that it had been discontinued, although it's still showing on the Tag Heuer home website. Another chain retailer said it had been discontinued only in the United States. I finally found one on Amazon, at Watchmaxx in New York, and one-click ordered and got it. It's so great not to be totally dependent on malls anymore. Another note: The day wheel can be set to English or French which alternate on the wheel, so if yours comes set on one you're not stuck with it as one reviewer complained. You can simply rotate the wheel one click and you're on the other language. But it's a wonderful watch and Watchmaxx delivered promptly with a dealer-signed warranty. Caution with delivery, however. On the package were bold, explicit instructions not to leave the package without a signature, and UPS left it on my porch. ... show more

  • Wonderful watch, average clasp...
The ONLY reason I rate this 4 stars instead of 5 is the metal clasp deployant. Unfortunately, TAG took a shortcut here. I have a $200 Swiss Army metal bracelet watch with an almost identical clasp. The clasp on the women's TAGs and the more expensive men's TAGs are much better -- i.e., sturdier steel and push-button release as opposed to flimsy steel and fold-over clasp release. Other than the clasp, however, this watch is outstanding. Keeps perfect time (as long as it's kept wound) looks fantastic. Gotten lots of compliments on it... ... show more

  • Great looking watch
It really is a great looking watch. I bought it with the rubber strap. It is very comfortable to wear and easy to read. I can even see the day/date without my glasses. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it is not as accurate as other quartz watches I own. I have never owned an automatic watch before purchasing this one. The upside is that it runs fast so I am never late for appointments. It gains about 5 minutes a week. I just adjust it backwards every Monday morning. I wish I didn't have to do that but otherwise great watch. ... show more
