I've had a super firm Sleep Innovations memory foam mattress topper for 10yrs. It finally have up. If the room is even slightly warmer than 65°, the topper become mush. Since the exact replacement is not currently available, I took a chance and ordered this one knowing it didn't have the same density rating. When I unpacked it, I could tell immediately it was much softer than I wanted. However, after 48 hours, it has plumped up and firmed up nicely. I've slept well on it. It's still not as firm as I really wanted, but it's firm enough that I'm happy with it. To add context, my former topper felt like a rock to the touch and then molded itself to my body as it warmed up. The difference is in the foam density. My former was a high density foam. This is clearly a medium density foam, but quite comfortable. If you are exceptionally heavy or have specific back issues, you likely want a high density foam. However, if availability or cost are a factor, you can make do with this one for some time. Meanwhile, if you're not very heavy, this one should serve your needs quite well and for long time. The topper comes with a removable, washable cover, and straps to hold it in place. Do plan on giving it the full 48 hours to decompress. 3 month update: I love this topper. I slept on it after 48 hours thinking it was fully expanded. I was wrong. It was much firmer after 72 hours. It's so much better than I expected. I'm sleeping well and awakening each morning refreshed and pain free. I haven't had to take ibuprofen for two months! Really happy with this purchase! ... show more

The topper arrived well packaged, easy to unroll, and I could let it expand inside the bag. I just cut air vents at one end of the bag and opened the other and set a fan in front of it and let it air out and expand for a few hours. It regained its proper height 3" in a few hours, and looked great, and no bad smell. Comes with a really nice topper cover as well. Some people might really like this topper if they like a softer squishier support, it is well made, no bad smell, inflates rapidly, has a nice cover and looks great. But lying on it it was not that great for me, as I found it too soft. I tried it out on the floor and I sunk down immediately, my hips touched the floor, the 3" loft squished down to 1/2 " beneath my hips, and shoulders sunk in next, and I was laying in a hole in the middle of the topper. I put it on top of my foam mattress and rolling over was difficult. I sunk in the middle. When I went to the edge it was firmer, and felt good for a moment until my hips hit the bottom again. It was painful after a few moments for my shoulders and hips hurt when lying on my side. I only weigh around136 lbs. It's a dense, squishy soft foam, perhaps better suited on top of a firm mattress. But it was too soft for me to place on top of a foam mattress. ... show more

I have a very firm rock hard mattress that I absolutely hate!!! I have yet to get a different one cause this one is still practically new and was not able to return it due to pass return date.. Now with that said I tried down filled toppers and they never last they go flat or lumpy, this is my first foam topper and I was very iffy about it given the fact my mattress is memory foam. This is definitely not the best or the worst but it has helped a little with my aches and pains. It's not too soft or too firm but I was expecting softer... I have only had it for a week so it needs time yet. As far as durability and quality for only being 2 inch it expanded nicely and does not seem like it will go flat or thin out any time soon. I do sleep hot and this topper is better then my regular mattress but it's still not as "cooling" as others have mentioned. Tip:Cotton sheets are the best for keeping cool. All in all 4 stars is fair and shipping took a little longer then expected but that's okay. ... show more
