This tool is basically a metal cylinder turned to different diameters with a smooth transition between each of them. On the one i received, as you can see from the picture, two of the adjacent sections are not concentric for some reason, which results in a strangely uneven transition between those two sections. This doesn't affect the tool's usability, at least not for my use case, but it does imply that this was not built to be a precision tool. Also, after only light hammering and a single use, the end is exhibiting slight mushrooming, so it's clear that the metal is pretty soft. You'll want to use a hard rubber or wooden mallet or similar instead of a metal hammer when using this tool, or you will gradually degrade it. I knocked off a star because of the issues described above, but at the end of the day, it did work. If you need a cheap tool for a oneoff job, grab this one. If you are going to be swaging hoses 8 hours a day for work, spend a little more and buy a nicer one. ... show more

After 20 strikes with a heavy deadblow hammer I had a swage that was about 1/8" deep. The opposite end of the pipe was pretty much ruined, even using a 2x4 as a pad. I also tried with the end of the pipe on concrete. It made no difference.
