  • Classic Stopped-Down finder, but it's very light...
This is the classic finder scope found on most "hobby killer" beginner telescopes, those that are designed to be sold but not used. It's a singlet objective, stopped down to 12mm by an aperture stop placed immediately behind the objective. It works for pointing the scope at bright targets, but won't help much for star-hopping. Removing the stop renders the chromatic aberration and field astigmatism uselessly severe outside the middle 1/3 of the field, so that's not really an effective hack for this finder. One other irritation: The finder tube is too small for the front of the finder mount, so there's no hard pivot for the 3 alignment screws to work against, which means that the finder can't actually be accurately aligned to the main scope, unless a couple of turns of electrical tape are wrapped around the tube where it contacts the front of the finder mount, to effectively soak up the slack between the tube and the mount. The finder mount is VERY flimsy, so even with the tape added, alignment is difficult because the mount flexes significantly under the relatively mild torque of turning the alignment screws. It can be done, but it's more tedious than it should be. It's one redeeming quality, the one I bought it for, is that it's very light compared to the vastly superior 6x30 finders sold on "non-hobby-killer scopes" (The Orion XT4.5 comes to mind. Actually, that scope comes with a very good 5x25), and reaches slightly dimmer than naked eye stars, making it a somewhat functional step up to a red-dot finder when naked-eye stars are limited due to observing conditions such as light pollution and/or haze. Such light-weight finders are nice for replacing the red-dot finders on fixed-pivot scopes, such as the (excellent) Zhumell 76mm Newt. You get what you pay for, this is a very inexpensive finder, and it behaves consistent with it's price. I'd be happy to pay a few more dollars for this exact setup if it were to include a (functional) doublet and no aperture stop. Everything else can be dealt with. ... show more

  • Sometimes you get more than you pay for!
Needed a reasonable priced ( You can can’t get any more reasonable than this ) finderscope to use instead of the Red-dot on one of my scopes. I sometimes find optical finders more acceptable at certain times. I’ve used many brands with various prices with very good results. I’ve also used various Svbony equipment and found they are of very good quality for their prices. This being said I didn’t expect much and read other reviews confirming . Hey you get what you pay for ... right! To my surprise this works well enough for my purposes and again reinforces my experience with Svbony. The best .. no , but functional solution for the price you bet. I’m pleased not mentioning it was delivered super early. ... show more

  • finder scope
My neighbor had given me an old Bushnell voyager 470 x 60mm refractor scope that was missing its parts. I needed a finder scope that I could adapt to the telescope housing. with this scope, I was able to tap two holes and use thumb screws to secure it to the telescope. the scope itself is made of plastic and the optics are pretty good. the thumb screws help to adjust the direction of the scope and allow for perfect star and planet spotting. the seller SVBONY shipped the scope super-fast, great seller. overall the scope work great and does the job thanks. ... show more

  • dont bother with this type
If you are serious about lining up your finder scope with your main scope, get a finder with a front and back set of screws that adjust the x and y axis separately. These kinds with the x and y on the same ring are just too finicky and fall out of alignment the second you bump them. spend more money on a better finder scope so you can spend more time looking at what you want to see in the stars! I found one on ebay for less than $20 ... show more

  • For the price this is a great value
it makes it easy to find what you are looking for in the sky.It was easy to install they supply 3 different mounting bases so it should fit most telescopes. Some of the reviews I read said this was not a good finder and maybe it is not the best. But if you have an average telescope and need a finder this will do the job. ... show more

  • Found it hard to mount.
Wanted it for a spotting scope to increase speed in finding and focusing on a subject. Found no way to mount it on Leo[old scope.

  • Replaced hard to find spotter
Bought this because the spotting scope from a Gskyer AZ700 broke when the telescope fell over. The holes line up, but did require a minor mod on the telescope to work. This works as advertised.

  • Difficult to align.
Very hard to align as there is a lot of space between the barrel and the holder. Took along time to get it close.
