When I opened the kit, it was in a small plastic holder. Beware that if you open it and take the parts out, it will be hard to put them back in so that it closes correctly. This was just a neat little starter kit I wanted to be able to throw in my truck and leave for anytime I may need any of it whether I was camping or hunting. For the most part everything seems sturdy. Some of the items don't seem as heavy duty as others, but everything works. Was especially happy with the hand saw chain and fire starter. This survival kit has a lot of useful tools. I keep mine in the trunk of my car in case of emergency but it would also be good for campers. Fortunately I haven’t had any emergencies yet, but all the tools seem sturdy especially the knife, flashlight and wire saw.

This small survival kit is a really good idea but in my opinion they stopped at the idea part. They put a lot of the things necessary for a survival situation, knife, compass, lanyard, screwdrivers, flint, etc but it's like they just took a random case, threw a whole bunch of survival gadgets in it, shut it and shipped it off. The case is so full you can barely get it closed, it came with absolutely no paperwork or, instructions whatsoever. If you don't know what the tools do, you'll have to look them up to find out. The quality of the actual tools seems good although I could not get he compass open for the life of me. In order to get it open I will probably have to damage it because it simply will not budge. Would I take this and trust it someplace like the boundary waters? No, no I would not. This is a joke of a kit and should be thought of as only to introduce someone to the novel idea of what a survival kit would come with be in no way actually be used outside of kids camping. Way overpriced children's toy, but with sharp edges. The waterproof box is not waterproof as it has no gasket and easily warps, and would not provide much if any protection. Also good luck getting everything back in there once you open it, its like magic how they stuffed it. The quality of what is in this kit ranges from barely passable imitation to laughable to downright dangerous. The knife has enough play it doesn't always lock, and when it does it is loose enough the extra play can cause it to snap closed with pressure, hope you don't love your fingers! If they are that careless on the knife do you trust... with your life... in an emergency that the parachute cord is ACTUAL parachute 550 or better? The spork gets an A+ though, I will give them that, you could nearly clean a fish with the spork alone. ... show more

Items are durable overall and I like the case except that the tabs feel flimsy and may actually break off at some point. I will point out that the snaps do stay secure. The rest of the kit is well made and very useful. I especially love the compass. Cool looking and accurate. Fits snugly in the pocket of my hiking pants. Easy to organize.
