  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Board seems good; pump gauge doesn’t work
Color: 10'6''x33''x6'' White
I’m taking the board out tomorrow for the first time so I’ll update once I’ve done that. As far as inflating it goes, the included pump never showed the PSI, so it’s a guessing game getting it to the proper pressure. I went as far as I dared, with a little bit of squish, just to make sure the board held the air before I take it on the water. I’ll be buying a new pump from the store today, which is disappointing but not enough to knock more than a star off. I bought this for the board, after all. The pump was a convenient addition, even if I’ll never use it. I’m afraid of popping the seams if I inflate it too much, and I’ll just never know with this pump. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars New to paddle boarding
Color: Blue
The media could not be loaded. TL:DR Board quality is decent for a beginner board, but if you have an issue be prepared to deal with their customer service, which is far less than ideal. UPDATE: 6-30-21 I finally had a chance to put this in the water a few times. The first time I inflated it, I had the same issue. It did work correctly the second time. The next two times I did not have any issue. Now, honestly, I expect the valve thing to happen here and there so I'm not fussed about it. My biggest gripe is with their customer service. They state they offer a "Hassle free" warranty. Yeah, about that. Even after sending them the video of the issue I was having, which I didn't mind doing, they still didn't seem to want to honor their warranty. They offered to send me a new valve and let me replace it. The board was less than a month old. Why should I be responsible for replacing parts on a board that has barely been broken in? Furthermore I am in coastal waters. This reason was a big one in why I hesitated to get an inflatable board. If something goes wrong it could actually be life endagering. So the idea that they want to pass this off onto me, which I know nothing about the valve, was not ok. Fact is, I could have taken it to any shop here in the area (Of which there are MANY) and it could have been replaced without fuss. But the board was a MONTH OLD. It wasn't 12 months old, barely skating in under the warranty time frame. And in fact had issues after only a few weeks. I even contacted them asking if it was a defect, or if there was something simple happening. So after a lot of back and forth in which they didn't seem to want to step up, they finally send me a new board. Then they start emailing me, asking me to change my review since they sent a board. As stated in my update below, I hadn't had time to put it in the water, why would I change anything? The emails kept coming. At this point it's basically harassment. They try to gaslight me and say I "misunderstood" what they were trying to do and it was more "ecofriendly" to just send me a new valve. (apparently they have so little faith in their product they couldn't just refurb the board I sent back to them and resell it as a refurb) So anyway, HERE IS MY FINAL STANCE: Over all I think the board is a quality board and there are going to be a few that have issues. HOWEVER, having to deal with them over an issue has completely soured me on the company. And considering I know I have sold at least 2 of these things for them, that does not make me happy. Their hassle free warranty is anything but. I didn't want anything for free, I just wanted a board that I paid for to work as it should. but getting that took a few weeks, too many emails, and far too much effort. That they felt they could gaslight me and convince me it was just a "misunderstanding" really irritates me. They should have simply acknowledged they should have handled it better and moved along. I'm going to be generous and give them a star back, but if I get one more email from them for anything I'm dropping it to a single star because I've had enough. ETA: 6-20-21 After a LOT of back and forth I finally got them to agree to send me a new board. Unfortunately the weather has not been cooperative and I have not been able to get it out on the water to see if it's ok. As soon as I can, I will update this. ETA 6-7-21: I've used this board for a month and have really enjoyed it. However it has developed a valve issue that has made me drop my original rating. When trying to inflate the board, the valve ends up locked in deflate mode which means you lose half your air when you disconnect your pump. This has become a consistent issue with it happening at least 3 out of 4 times. It happens with both the manual and electric pump. Sometimes it appears to get stuck in the half way position. Other people have used my electric pump and have not experienced this issue, so between that and the fact it happens with the manual pump as well, this is clearly not a pump issue. I contacted the company, who was slow to respond, then acted as if I didn't know how to inflate it. Mind you, I clearly do as they asked to use pics of me on it for their marketing stuff. I blew the valve out with canned air on the off chance something was stuck in it, but that did not solve the issue. As it stands now, the board is frustrating enough to inflate that I don't want to deal with it. Because the Surfstar seemed to want to pass blame on to me, I contacted Amazon, who did make an exception even though I am outside the return period. Unless Surfstar steps up to back their product, I cannot recommend them any longer. Since I've moved to the coast I've gotten into water sports. A kayak was my first bigger purchase and as much as I love my kayak, I thought an iSUP might be a nice change, and also a little more convenient in a lot of ways. I'm in a paddle group and when I saw a fellow member reviewing the board I decided to give it a go. I'd looked at several and this one seemed to have what I wanted at a decent price point. I took it out this week for a paddle and liked it. It's firm and didn't feel like it was going to give. Handled reasonably well for a newbie. There are two things I'd like to see change though. First, the paddle. This thing is heavier than my kayak paddle and I don't have a super pricey, carbon fiber kayak paddle. So the fact this thing weighs so much more that it's noticeable even to a new paddler stands out. I will definitely be looking for a different paddle. Second, the bag seems sturdy enough, but I wish it had some separation available. Everything is sort of thrown in there and I worry about something getting damaged. Either the board getting torn, the fin breaking, the paddle snapping, the pump busting, etc. I will probably end up making myself a secondary bag to handle the other stuff Overall I really like the package and it was a great deal. I'd buy again. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Great paddleboard bundle for beginners
Color: Blue
This is my second paddleboard. I bought one a year ago and it was time to get another one for my family. This one is definitely an upgrade for me. It has three handles on top (my previous had only 1 in the middle) and also two areas to hold bags/supplies. The standing area is really nice - it has some non-slippery material on it. The bundle comes with everything you need to get on water (except safety vest I guess). All nicely packed in a large backpack, so it is easy to put in a car. The only thing I didn't like as much is the pump. It looks more complicated than the one I had before - it has two modes of operation (high capacity and high pressure). Perhaps I didn't switch to the right mode, but pumping felt more tiring than with a simpler 1 mode pump I had before. Overall, worked great for me and should be great for any beginner to get on water. ... show more
