So, for the $35 I paid for it, I got a tape player, radio receiver, and (this is the part that surprises me) a little computer*. It does what it says it will, and does it well. The sound quality isn't amazing, but it's certainly good enough to fill my kitchen with music. I really didn't expect to enjoy this thing as much as I do. It seems to play MP3 files on USB in timestamp order, which i didn't expect but it's cool since it's easily manipulated. (At least, on Linux. I dunno how Windows users could except manually. There's probably a Powershell way.) *It doesn't run Windows or anything, but it understand file systems, USB Storage, Bluetooth, MP3 files, and probably a few other things I haven't used. I haven't taken it apart, but there's got to be a little computer in there, probably running Linux or an RTOS of some sort. Love this radio! Definitely recommend buying the model with the extra base sound. The tapes play well and the Bluetooth connection is super easy. The only thing that isn’t the best is how sensitive the volume knob is. It goes from muted to loud with a slight turn of the knob. That’s the only downfall. As most users say, it is very cheap feeling. But for a cheap radio/blue tooth speaker I’m happy with it. It has the vintage look that I was searching for I don’t mind the sound quality. It’s not for audiophiles by any means but then again it’s like $40. There’s only 3 issues I have with it and I feel that if the company would remedy these it would be an amazing value. 1. I tried 3 different cassettes. It destroyed one of them, one would not even fit and the last one played without issue. So if you’re planning on using it for cassettes be aware that it will mostly likely destroy it. 2. The power cord does not stay in. I just pushed it up against the wall so the cord would stay in place. I just wish it was more secure. 3. There is no on/off switch. When the unit is receiving power it’s just constantly on. AGAIN DO NOT PUT TAPES WITH ANY VALUE TO YOU IN THE TAPE DECK ... show more

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS SUPERSONIC IS 100% THE SAME AS THE QFX REPLICA - except, of course, the brand names. I have had TWO Supersonics and ONE or TWO QFXs in the past three years (my TWO COMPLAINTS are that the CASSETTE DECK goes for only 50-75 hours (BUT THIS COULD APPLY TO any Cassette players/recorders, except possibly those "tabletop" and some such variety that are specifically cassette players/recorders). The SECOND & FINAL COMPLAINT IS THE LACK OF A COMPREHENSIVE MANUAL, especially to run the MEMORY CARD & FLASH DRIVE without having to learn the how-to's unnecessarily BY TIME-CONSUMING TRIAL & ERROR! This was a TEMPORARY REVIEW (I typed the TEMPORARY REVIEW but I wasn't whether I should submit it at that point (after using the unit for several months) or wait. Please read UPDATE FURTHER BELOW HERE for a more comprehensive REVIEW I am posting today (early April 2023) about a year or so later for SC-3201BT (I composed the review a year or so ago), a most versatile "boombox" (to be finalized within three to 12 months, if necessary) -- Recommend seller very highly, of course. DELIVERY WAS almost AS FAST AS I PLACED THE ORDER! I believe it was delivered to me the next day). When it comes to certain products, I don't like to jump to conclusions when reviewing them.... However, I've used this for about 50 hours - including the radio bands (not using SW bands, though, because for those bands one needs rather elaborate copper-wire...antennas, especially in large cities surrounded by tall buildings, etc.; and, anyway, many of the SW stations of old have disappeared because of the Internet, etc.). In New York City, for example, this easily receives about 25 AM and 25 FM stations, virtually all very sharp and clear (without even raising the three-foot rod antenna at all). The Memory Card records and plays back perfectly well; so does the USB. The cassette tape works fine. The recording is possible to and from a cassette or radio or externally from your own voice to a USB or Memory Card, etc. (has two built-in mics; one for the cassette and the other for the USB and Memory Card. I tested the USB and also the Memory Card by recording talk radio on AM for several hours. The whip antenna (single rabbit ear) is three feet long, but I don't have to raise it at all for any of the 50 (AM/FM) stations. Three-way power sources, i.e., battery (4xD), electrical cord (included), as well as via adapter. As of this writing, Amazon, and this seller, has the best price, about $42-43 (I've even seen online prices for this model at far higher prices; and for the QFX (I have the QFX, too, and they're100% identical under different brand names, assuming there's BT = Bluetooth end of model number). Supersonic was established in the 1970s and QFX in the 1990s (they're both most likely manufactured under the same roof, in the same factory under two different brand names). POSTING HEREUNDER UPDATED REVIEW - A YEAR OR SO THEREAFTER: In two years I've had ONE or TWO QFXs and TWO Supersonics (both are exactly the same under different brands). To me, these are worth about $35-40; maybe even up to $45-50 in view of their VERSATILITY (Radio AM/FM/SW1/SW2 - of course, the SWs are in most cases with no signal). You can use a flash drive, a memory card, and even record from and onto the cassette, etc. from the radio or externally (your voice) (there's NO input jack but, yes, a headphone output jack, but the input jack would drive up the price if it had one). The external mics are decent and the qualities on the flash drive and memory card (MC) (both digital, of course) are very good, and on the cassette ( = analog, of course) fairly good. In my lifetime I've used over a dozen radios, recorders, etc. The radio functionality is very good to excellent (that's the AM/FM, but I haven't bothered with the SW bands, especially because in most urban areas one requires special SW antennas, etc.). SW bands are no longer as popular and in demand since the Internet, etc. NOW, the TWO painful issues I've had with these three units: First, the manuals I've checked back and forth on the Internet are almost useless except for one or two instructions - so that when you record anything on the MC or flash drive - especially, say, two or three recordings in a day or two or three, say, about 5-10-15 minutes each, it's like trying to find the proverbial needle in a haystack when searching for one of the recordings, etc. Another ISSUE is the relatively short lifespan of the CASSETTE DECK functionality. On two of the units, the cassette deck stopped working after about 50-75 hours (recording and playback) - THEREFORE, I'm using the cassette part of the third unit very sparingly and I'm recording mainly on the MC and flash drive (but, again, searching and finding recordings on the MC and FD is an unnecessary chore, a virtually frustrating proposition! INDEED, THE MANUFACTURERS OF BOTH QFX AND SUPERSONIC MUST PROVIDE A THOROUGH, CLEAR, AND PRACTICAL MANUAL FOR US USERS OF THESE OTHERWISE VERSATILE and relatively reasonably priced entertainers. LIke the old boomboxes of the 80s with some new Bluetooth and SD card features?! Well keep looking. This is not your best choice. Possibly the worst decision you could make today if you buy it. Oh, it easy to use. but make no mistake, this is a total piece of garbage. Plastic is cheap, flimsy and not worth a $1 child toys. Tape would not fit in cassette. Sound was terrible. Radio reception quality was poor. Speakers suck. This was a waste of time for all people involved in designing, manufacturing and selling this hunk of crap. Could be used to throw off a bridge.
