Description

SuperMoss Orchid and Nursery Sphagnum Moss is a premium grade, long fiber and long-lasting sphagnum. Its long fibers and superior water retention properties make it ideal for lining hanging baskets and using as soil cover in window boxes and house plants. Sphagnum helps you take the guesswork out of watering your garden plants by absorbing up to 18 times its weight in water. Sphagnum provides water to the roots according to the plant's needs, while allowing for optimum oxygenation so that the roots can uptake vital micronutrients. It makes for an excellent soil conditioner or top layer on potted plants like Orchids! Use Nursery Sphagnum when transplanting, aerating soil, conditioning, or just dressing up any potted plant! • I've had great results with my starter mix and I'm happy with the quality!
Color: Natural White Size: Mini Bale (Appx. 1.1 lbs.) Style: Natural
Works well at retaining moisture and a little goes a long way! I used this to make my own starter mix and have had excellent results with growing my watermelon, pumpkin, tomato and lemon seeds! My recipe: Approx. A quarter pound of sphagnum moss, 1 brick of coco peat, 1 cup of vermiculite and 1.5 Tbs of garden lime (to neutralize acid levels of sphagnum moss). I just mixed these all together and soaked the mixture until it was all damp before putting in the baskets. Some people use just the coco peat bricks and vermiculite, however the sphagnum moss is cheaper. ... show more

  • A good substantial moss at a good price
Color: Natural White Size: Appx. 2.1 lb Small Bale Style: fertilizer
I don't know if I lucked out, but I am very happy with the product I received. I ordered the "2.4" bag, which is really a "2.2" bag. I threw it on the scale just for fun and yah it was a little shy of 2.2. I am just going to assume that there was more moisture in it at the time of packaging. It's a moot point because there is TONS of moss in this bag. I took just a bit off the top and filled my entire prop box with lots leftover. This bag will last me a long time. I am also going to use this for wrapping poles and orchids. No, this isn't super premium looooooong strand moss. If you need that, look for the Besgrow brand, and you will pay for it too. For the rest of your non-premium needs, this brand is what you are looking for. I didn't pull it all out, but I lifted up several layers and saw no debris or mold. Nothing showing through the packaging, everything seems clean and as should be. For those complaining about roots and a few sticks- It's a NATURAL product, pulled out of nature. Natural things get mixed in it, like a few leaves or small sticks. If you want a product where someone has already handpicked it out, again, try Besgrow. In the amount I used, I found one tiny stick and a small root ball. It's a plant- you are going to find roots. Spag moss has long stringy roots. The moss fluffed right up and most strands are 3-8" long. No smell. I put plastic wrap over my leftovers- I will check each day for bugs and will report back if I find any. If I ever run out, I will order this brand again. This is also the brand all of the expensive nurseries around me carry. Update: no mites, flies, bugs, smell, mold of any kind in my test sample or prop box. My plants have rooted and are doing great! ... show more

  • Great Quality Moss
Color: Natural White Size: Mini Bale (Appx. 1.1 lbs.) Style: Natural
I’m super happy with this moss. It’s good quality at a great price point and it’s so much better than the moss sold at Home Depot and other big box stores. It’s clean and has minimal twigs which can easily be removed, as opposed to store bought which is full of leaves, twigs, and other junk. It expands a lot and is perfect for moss poles and potting plants. I used it for the first time today to repot my new Cyrtosperma Macrotum and Monstera Thai Constellation so I haven’t had time to see how the plants grow but I’m confident they will do well in this moss. If I have any issues I will update this review but so far I’m very happy. I spent a lot of time searching Amazon, reading reviews, looking for a good quality moss for a reasonable price and this will definitely be a repeat purchase for me. I bought the 253 cubic inch/4L size and it looks like it will last me quite a while. I included a comparison pic with this moss vs the moss I bought from Home Depot. ... show more

  • Size does matter when it's coming out of my wallet
Color: Natural White Size: Mini Bale (Appx. 1.1 lbs.) Style: Natural
I was expecting something about the size of a bale of hay. For what I paid, even if it is the best I got about a brick's worth that. Seemed like I was paying for something else. It expands and goes a long way. Perfect for propations and you get to reuse half of it again.

  • Great value for the price, good for plants.
Color: Natural White Size: Appx. 2.1 lb Small Bale Style: fertilizer
I took a bit of a gamble purchasing this after reading so many negative reviews, but I think it is perfectly adequate for what it is - a large quantity of sphagnum for a very low price. Is it the highest quality sphagnum you can find? No. But terrarium grade, New Zealand-sourced sphag will run you around the same price for a much smaller bale. I personally also do not care that the weight of the bale may be slightly misleading. Once again, the price point is quite low, and moss is a natural material which means the weight will change a lot based on moisture level. There is organic material in the mix you'll want to remove before using it for plants (twigs, etc) but again - this is a budget product. I used this sphagnum to make moss poles for some of my climbing aroids, and will continue to use it to propagate some of my less picky plants. I would probably stick with the higher grade sphag for anything that is rare or harder to grow just because it will probably decompose much more slowly, and I probably wouldn't use this for terrariums with live animals. Overall I'm happy with the purchase and the value of the product. ... show more
