This is a beautiful, extra large cotton bedspread. It drapes beautifully around all sides, even on a memory foam mattress with a topper. I like it because at night, the spread drapes over the sides of the bed, unlike comforters which just lay on the top. It is a medium weight, which works perfectly with a blanket for colder days and will be the perfect weight for summer with just the sheet under it. Some reviewers said it was not cotton but the bedspread I got says 100% cotton. I also like that it is not overly ornate, but has a simple basket weave. I love this but........... It was huge! Touched the floor on all four sides of my king sized bed, so a little too big actually. I washed it hoping it would shrink. It did, but only from side to side, not top to bottom. And it does shed a lot of lint in the dryer, but knowing that in advance, I checked the dryer every 20 minutes to clean out the lint so it dried more quickly than it would have. My reason for four stars........ the hem has already started to come apart after one washing. Hoping to stitch it by hand before the whole thing comes undone. Very comfortable, keeps one warm without sweating incessantly because 100% cotton "breathes." If you think it is stiff or otherwise unpleasant out of the box, try a refreshing 5-minute spin in the air or low cycle of the dryer. Don't let all this upcoming advice on fabric care frighten you off buying these or any of the other gorgeous Superior 100% cotton products: they are reasonably priced for such nice natural fabrics, and you cannot beat 100% cotton for soft warmth and comfort. Just don't think of or treat your linens (or clothes!) like you would a cheap face cloth or kitchen towel - you'll do fine. About washing -hear this for all clothes and linens: detergents, hot water and dryer heat are enemies, not friends of fabrics. These 100% cotton things are prone to lint, and washing/drying in machines really will produce a lot of lint to the point of disaster in some cases. So for this item, (or any natural fiber bedspreads) if you do not want to dry clean (which uses chemicals to clean) - generally speaking, you can spot clean by blotting up spills with a towel, and even a bit of natural cleaner like Mrs. Meyers' s on the spill. You also you can run it through the dryer to freshen and remove dust without washing it first. Be aware that while this item can handle the dryer, certain other fabrics may be destroyed by dryer heat so check the fabric content label. Most big, heavy items will recommend to spot clean spills or soil as you find effective. Try to wash infrequently if at all, and if wash is necessary treat it as a very delicate fabric. Use the washer's gentle or delicate cycle, with cold water wash, and as little detergent to make only a light suds - if you can, add the soap after it is agitating, to get an idea of how much suds you are raising. Give it 2 or more gentle rinses in cold water, and add fabric softener to the final rinse. Let it air dry outdoors if possible; you can fold it in half and lay it across your lawn furniture or on a clean patio or balcony wall, for example. After air drying you can give it 5-10 minutes in the air dry cycle to remove excess lint once it is dry. If you must dry it in the dryer, run it through the low cycle a few times, each time taking it out to shake it free of its balled up self, to redistribute the weight. Repeat as often as required on low heat to get it dry, without over drying. ... show more

There were so many great reviews. Most people must have bought this and just put it on the bed, or I received a defective one. I ordered the garnet, it had a chemical smell and red on the packaging so I washed it on a gentler cycle with 2 rinses. Then I put it in a low dryer, I was not worried about shrinkage due to the size. It did shrink, it also created so much link... I kept running it through the dryer and getting more link, ran it through air fluff 4 times after it dried and am still getting fluff. There is red dust throughout my dryer and dryer vent and all over the floor. No way is this going on my bed, everything will be covered in red fabric dust. If you have breathing problems avoid this product (garnet). Also, one wash, on gentle, cold water, and it is faded. This is what I get for being cheap. Going to try for a refund, but... ... show more

I've been all over Amazon looking for a 100% cotton coverlet. I wanted something besides blue or green because I have too much of those colors in my home. So, anytime I was looking, there was not a red or burgundy without polyester or microfiber. I sweat in a snowstorm. I don't want to add to my menopausal sweating at night. I spent two different weekends in Tulsa, an hour drive away from home, shopping at Belks, Dillard's, Macy's and any other bed spread place I drove past. Everything was polyester or microfiber. If it had some cotton it was pastel colors. I like regal ie: royal blue, evergreen, purple, lipstick red. You get the point. So, anywho, I guess Amazon was listening to my quest, don't think that they don't. I went coverlet shopping on Amazon again and to my not so surprise, there it is, in a regal color and I don't have to buy a bed skirt because it's long enough to go to the floor. They get so dirty and I need help taking it off to wash. Now I am 98% happy. I don't care for the corner overhang on floor at the foot of my bed. We would be tripping over it. So I tuck it over the frame. I knocked off 1% for each side. Hey! This is my review. Write your own. I really do like it and plan to buy a different color for my guest room. ... show more
