I read with HORROR some of the reviews that spoke of this hat coming folded down the middle with an impossible to remove crease. Mine did NOT come that way—the whole brim was on top with the back “veil” tucked under. I would have sent it back otherwise—I made sure there was a “free return” policy just in case someone did crease the hat. The color is a beautiful fuchsia, bright but not ridiculous—my husband will find me easily visible when we are hiking or in a crowd. The front brim provides coverage for my whole face—the hat is UPF 50+ and it comes with a LIFETIME warranty against defects in material or workmanship. I am VERY happy to say that it is NOT a product of Comminist China, but rather Vietnam. You can hand wash it in cold water but the UPF will only allow for 30 total washes. That seems reasonable since I won’t be wearing it every day—it should last through a lot of years as my walking and hiking hat. I LOVE the very functional feminine style—the back fabric cascades over your neck and shoulders so no sunscreen is necessary there (depending on your shirt—I mostly wear regular t-shirts or 3/4 length sleeve shirts with complete shoulder coverage). I hate the greasy feel of sunscreen on my skin so this is the perfect hat for me. I will only need some sunscreen (probably) on my chin and the sides of my cheeks that are not covered by my long hair. I think this hat is VERY well made and a GREAT value for the price. I only wish that it had come in royal blue also (which would have gone with more of my clothes). ... show more

I often think any and all hats look silly on me, but this one is actually kind of cute. It's not too deep for a petite frame (almost, it does contact the top of my ears somewhat) and it protects my neck like I wanted. The straps seem a unnecessarily long but I don't really have any criticism for this hat and the price is affordable. Update: My one criticism is the straps are attached too far forward so it's harder to keep them behind the ear, and you do need that when it's windy. ... show more

If your head measures 21 1/2" - 24" this is a great hat for you outdoors. The brim is enormous and shades your eyes with ease. There is a pony tail hole so you can pull a braid or pony tail through it for greater comfort and stability. There is an adjustment strap to tighten the cap circumference. The chin cord has a reliable adjustment toggle to keep the hat from blowing off in windy weather. The neck drape is ample. You can pack this flat or roll it for trips. The fabric is SPF 50 and is quick drying. I got mine in the color Amethyst, which is like an orchid purple. I use it for gardening and hiking at high altitude. Only detraction of this design, compared with other Sunday Afternoon hats, is the lack of ventilation. It can get hot inside the hat when wearing it in a desert. That's why I say 4/5 stars. Update 8/9/2023 I took this hat with me on a 10 day trip to a sunny destination where I did a lot of walking while wearing a back pack. Even though I looked like a dork, I kept that chin strap snug. There were some incidents when wind gusts blew the brim backwards and the hat fell backwards off my head. That was annoying. I am not lowering my rating but certainly am not raising it. . I have used these hats for many years I even ordered them from the company who makes them. I have them in Many Colors my sister loves them great for wearing two different fairs outings cookouts whatever it keeps the sun off of my neck and off of my ears and out of my face. I think you can also buy the kind that are made like a sun visor where your hat is open on the top. ... show more

    • Too Big and Neck Flap Makes Swish Noise

I had high hopes for this sun hat because it is so attractive and has a wide brim. However, although the hat is adjustable, it still was a bit too big on my average sized female head and it tended to fall down over my forehead. The neck flap in the back brushed against my tee shirt making a soft, swishing noise that I didn't like. I removed the hat after a few steps and returned it. I will try to find a wide brimmed hat that fits better. By the way, I have a thick ponytail and there is enough room under the hat to flip my ponytail up rather than putting it through the hole. I just got the hat, I agree with other reviewers who stated that the hat is mailed in such a way that it is folded and leaves some hard to remove creases in the brim in front that look terrible. With that said, I like the color of the hat, I went with the sand/cream color with a tan underside. I wanted a light colored sun hat to help keep it cooler on me. This hat is made from a nice light fabric and the brim in the front is the perfect size to keep the sun off of my face, I just had to deal with pre-cancer spots on my face and wanted a hat to protect me. I have another sun hat that I wear outside doing yard work and gardening but it has a stiff large brim all around and I do not like that it hits my back when I put the head back, it's really annoying to me, so was looking for something with a soft back and this works perfectly for that! I am looking forward to fishing and fun outside with this new hat! ... show more
