Update: I ordered 6 more lights because I was hoping to just replace the light and not the junction box; However, the design had changed so I had to replace the light and the box. I emailed Sunco to ask a question. SUPER fast response time! These lights have a 7-year warranty. After telling them how fast they were going out, they sent me 6 lights free of charge! GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! And that's important! My electrician recommended these to replace the ones I previously had because those did not last very long. He replaced all eight of them in my kitchen in August 2023. I had a box of 6 extra for replacements if needed. I now have one light left and three junction boxes left. At least they're somewhat easy to replace. If someone knows why these don't last, please let me know.

TLDR: These lights are awesome. As good or better than box store quality at an 1/3 the price. I've been looking for the perfect lighting solution for my laundry room. I've tried every style of "can" lighting their is and these by far surpassed my expectation. Very clean install and the separate wiring box saved time and money. Not to mention the box unplugs so you can wire it in and then plug the fixture into it. For being only 4 inches these this are bright and the angle of light is awesome! They beat out any bulb style can in my opinion and I've used them heavily for about 6 months now in a very hot environment with no issue. Plus with a 5 year warranty what's to worry about. Instant light, none of that dim-to-bright buildup some LEDs have. Super clean finish look even on my heavily textured ceilings. I wish I'd found these sooner. I wish I had pictures to compare to all the other lights this size I tried in this space but take my word, these are the best and will probably end up replacing a good amount of the lighting in my home.

I like them and have about 16 installed. But 3 have gone out and one just flickers with no light. Although they are under warranty and are being replaced, they come with a different junction box so its not a matter of just unplugging and swap out the light but I have to hire an electrician to connect the new junction boxes. This is frustrating. I am told they change junction boxes every couple of years....

We got these lights for our basement that we are renovating. We bought two 6 packs; 2700K for the living room area and 3000k for the kitchen area. We installed these in a drop ceiling in which they worked very nicely. By far my biggest complaint is the actual wiring process. If you're like 95% of the people buying these, you will be wiring multiple on a single circuit/switch. This means each junction box will have two sets of 14 AWG (or worse, 12 AWG) wire and the actual wire for the lights (which honestly appears like 16 AWG). The problem is the junction boxes are very small and the included wire nuts are very small. The wire nuts will work for two 14 AWG wires and the light wire but it is a tight fit and needs to be lined up perfectly (no way these nuts will work for 12 AWG). Additionally, the wires for the lights aren't really stripped enough, so anticipate having to strip them a little more. This, and working with the limited space of the junction box, means wiring each light takes 4x longer that it could have. Dimming is great with my Leviton DSL06-1LZ dimmers. However, I have noticed that the dimmer itself has a slight buzz, as does the circuit breaker at the panel (only audible if you turn your ear to it within about 10 inches). It does not appear to hinder functionality but keep in mind LED compatibility is hit or miss and not all dimmers are compatible with all types/brands of LEDs. Despite the challenges, I do like these lights. The 2700K is the perfect soft light for a living room area. The 3000K appears very white to me but should be suited well for the kitchen area. These don't produce as much light as a typical 6 inch light might be capable of, so anticipate using more of these 4 inch units. Despite not being 'recessed,' these lights appear recessed unless you take a close look when their off. Aside from the earlier complaints, the junction box is nice as you can attach it just about anywhere and still have flexibility in where you put the light. If you can be patient with the install, these are solid lights and I would recommend them. We will probably be getting more for other parts of the house. I just hope they last as long as advertised.

16 by 16 room took 9 lights (3 rows of 3) to light it up nicely. I started with these 6 set to 3000k and then determined i needed 3 more lights. Since I was using the 3000k setting on these, the next set i purchased were only the 3000k set as they were a little cheaper. The thing i noticed is that while the light is exactly the same color and brightness that when i dim them they all dim but and the lowest level the 3000k only set will go off before the other 6 lights. As it turns out since these are the middle row it actually works good since its like I can turn off a set of lights down the middle of the room. Biggest takaway, if you have a 16x16 type of room size you will need 9 lights (4 inch). If you are going to dim them I would by enough of the same type at one time so they all dim the same. They are super easy to install. Also, a Bath and Body 3-wick candle lid makes the perfect hole templete (4.25 inches). Biggest unkown is longevity but most say warranty replacements are easy. I have a drop ceiling so easy changeout for me if it occurs. I might not though put put these in my formal living room, somewhere hard to access or if I was not handy at installing for fear of having to replace them again down the road.

Like many homeowners, I’m always on the hunt for a good deal or a way to save money with projects around the home. These lights seemed like a great way to do so—after all, who can go wrong with a product that has thousands of good reviews? So, I picked these up to have an electrician install in our house. When they came in, I noticed it was a plastic box. It threw me off at first, but I remembered that most receptacle boxes are plastic, and I didn’t think anything of it. When our electrician came to install the lights, he expressed much concern about this product, and I boiled it down to a few key areas: 1. Plastic boxes. With these being plastic, and not metal, there is no way that these boxes themselves can be grounded. Therefore, if there is any wiring issue inside these boxes, then the circuit won’t ground out and trip, causing a fire hazard. Not to mention that these simply feel like cheap plastic. 2. Small boxes. This is more of a hassle for the installer, but these boxes simply cannot easily contain a cable coming in, and a cable coming out. Leaves more room for error, and something going wrong. 3. Lack of ground. This was a big one for me. There is no ground wire in the box, and since it’s plastic, the ground wire in a standard Romex cable is basically useless. If something goes wrong, the wires will simply keep heating the plastic box. 4. Heat of the box itself. This is something I discovered after a few minutes of use. I was able to evaluate the boxes from above in the attic, and I found that after only a few minutes of the lights being on, these black boxes got hot. Not untouchably hot, but hot enough that burying these in insulation in an attic felt like a fire hazard. Given that these lights are rated for insulation contact, this was surprising. 5. Improperly sized wire nuts, lack of push in cable connector. These are smaller issues, but the wire nuts weren’t the correct size for combining three wires, and the lights did not come with any sort of cable connector to secure the wire to the box — another hazard. All of these items combined, at least to me, come across as a product that is unsafe and should not be installed in homes. I’m not an electrical expert, but based on what my electrician said and my evaluation of the product, this is my experience. The lights themselves seem to be fine quality, but the electrical box is certainly the weak point. I ended up installing a set of lights from a hardware store that have a larger, metal box, with a ground, pre-installed Waco style connectors, and don’t heat up nearly as much. Yes, they are twice the price, but I feel much better about installing them on my home.
