  • Wide range of chorus sounds - better than expected!
My first Stritch pedal was a delay pedal which sounds good, but lacked thickness and feedback length for my needs, although I did find a use for it with a synthesizer in my studio. I’m a pedal guy, with over 50 spread over several boards, but my only chorus pedal has been my trusty MXR micro chorus. I had an opportunity to pick up this chorus pedal to try and tempered my expectations accordingly. Right out of the box, it sounded fantastic. The two knobs (depth and rate) are quite effective in coaxing many sweet sounds out. Between the two, there are many useable sounds, some simple and some complex! The character is a bit more like the Nirvana chorus sound at the far end of the knob, which is a sound I enjoy quite a lot. Back off on the depth gives me a more simple modulation, and reducing the speed also seems to change the algorithm. So there are a lot of sounds on tap here, functionality which is easily obtainable with a simple nudge of the knobs. Sound quality is equal to other pedals in my collection, as is build quality. I noticed no distortion in the circuit, just clean warm chorus. For the price, this is a great value. ... show more

  • Solid build and good sound
Sounds good. The metal box feels solid. It came with a sheet of pre-cut hook tape for attaching to a pedal board. It requires external power but the power draw seems to be modest so it isn't too picky about mA rating. I think Strich most have changed from a 3-knob version of this pedal to a 2-knob version as some of the pictures show 3 knobs. But it's definitely 2 knobs. Rate and depth. When powered off and in the bypass setting the signal goes through cleanly so it's a true bypass. When powered and not bypassed, but the knobs are both turned all the way down, the signal is just slightly different than when bypassed so either the pedal is slightly changing the tone or you can't completely turn down the chorus. Either way, you are probably going to turn the effect up a bit from zero and when you do it's a nice classic mono chorus. Cranked, it's warbly and slightly dissonant sounding, at more modest settings it imparts a nice fullness. I am giving it 5 stars because it is well made, sounds good, and is inexpensive. If it cost twice as much I might be more critical but as it is I think this is a completely usable pedal and I like what it's doing, especially for the price. ... show more

  • Really well made pedal at a great value with some minor quirks
The STRICH MELODY HALO Chorus Guitar Pedal arrived very well packaged and came with a velcro strip for pedal board mounting and a manual. The pedal itself is very well manufactured with robust switches and knobs and a pristine paint job. The pedal is nearly identical in size to a standard 1590B enclosure - same height and width but about 1.4" shorter. I power all of my pedals externally but please note this cannot be powered by internal battery. The pedal is indeed true bypass (and will work unpowered when switched off). I found the underlying sound to be a touch trebly and a little boosted when turned on - kind of a hi-fi version of the unaffected sound - something many will like but I prefer my original sound as close as possible to the bypassed sound. But the chorus sound is really nice - definitely gets a very 80s sort of analog sound with a good variety of rate and depth through the knobs. For pedal nerds, this appears to use a BL3102 chip and BL3207 chip (copy of MN3102 and MN3207 chips found in Ibanez pedals) for chorus. Overall a fantastically built pedal at a great price with some sound quirks. ... show more

  • Works well, biased towards treble
This pedal is well-built, has securely mounted jacks, and the switch feels solid and clicky. The included velcro is just basic velcro. It's fine, but I recommend 3M dual lock for pedalboards. At the time of writing, the price is competitive with other single-effect pedals, so i think it's a decent buy. The sound is good, a bit drier and much more treble focused than a Donner tri-chorus I have, which is thick with lower midrange. On one extreme (both knobs at minimum), this pedal's effect is hardly noticeable, and on the other end, it's really warbly, rubber bandy, and funny sounding. For practical purposes, something in between will be best. Because of the sharper treble-focused sound, I'm not sure yet if this will have a permanent place on my pedalboard, but in the meantime it will be a good tool to have when playing with sounds. ... show more

  • This chorus effect really sounds awesome!
I play lap steel guitar which is a bit different than a regular electric guitar, but the fact that this chorus pedal works wonders on both is too cool. My son plays a regular electric guitar and used this chorus for a minute as I wanted to hear it on his style of guitar playing as opposed to it working on MY style of playing on the lap steel. See, if you aren't a lap steel player, we don't use fingers to create chords on the neck of a guitar. The chords come from the tuning and the use of the tone bar or steel bar held in the player's hand and slid along the neck is the big difference in playing a lap steel. The thing is, both guitars have a similar sound without effects pedals and both can be significantly changed by use of this and/or other effects pedals. Personally, this is one of my favorites for the lap steel and for the price, it was well worth getting! ... show more

  • Excellent clone of a classic chorus pedal
I am fairly certain this a clone of a legendary, vintage, silver-screw laden 2-knob chorus pedal. I compared it to my copy and it sounds almost indistinguishable. The pedal is made very well, and came with a pre-cut velcro pad for the bottom. The jacks seem solid and the switch feels confident under foot. At this price point, you can’t go wrong. They did a great job of nailing this circuit, even the knobs react almost exactly the same as the knobs on the vintage pedal. Excellent ... show more
