  • Looks terrific in white! Good semi-weighted keyboard. Wish the stand and pedal were also white.
This keyboard looks great in white. Very classy. So, it would have been terrific if the included keyboard stand were white, too. Oh well, it’s still a good instrument worth considering for learning, or even as a second keyboard for adding lots of sounds to your playing. I was wondering how they could fit everything into such a small box. It is because you have to build the X-stand, which isn’t really that hard, but will take you a few minutes. The 128 sounds on this keyboard are mostly quite good. The pianos are at the beginning of the list and are usable. I didn’t care for the organ sounds personally, and while the lead synth sounds are good, there is no modulation wheel, so they’re limited. The speakers are actually quite good, and have a broad stereo field, but of course are a little lacking in bass due to their size. The headphones are small, and not really great, but at least there are some. I tried it with a pair of high-quality headphones, and the sound was good. The back-panel photo shows that it has all the standard connections, and a sustain pedal is included. Again, the pedal is also black. Note that there are two pedal jacks. A standard single sustain pedal is included. The other jack is for an optional (not included) “professional” three-pedal setup that is like a grand piano. Really it’s a complete package that could be a good first keyboard for someone who is not requiring fully-weighted piano keys. The keys themselves are tight, not clacky and feel like quality, with no inconsistent gaps between them, or anything like that. I will say, that compared to the half a dozen other semi-weighted keyboards that I have, the keys seem to be a little difficult for me to control accurately when playing classical music and trying to achieve small differences between loud and soft tones, but I prefer fully-weighted keys anyway. Perhaps you would have better success. The instrument comes with an extensive song demo list, that would take quite a while to listen to. They are mostly public domain pieces like Christmas carols and old standards. Some of the classical pieces have odd rhythm percussion added. Some are straight forward. The keyboard part itself is very light weight. I can actually lift and carry it with one hand, so portability is really good for an 88 key instrument, especially one with decent built-in speakers. A music stand that attaches to the top is included, as well as a USB cable to interface with a computer for recording or utilizing VSTs or DAWs, so it’s really complete. The instruction manual is clear and understandable. I think many people would enjoy owning this as a first instrument, given its broad abilities and many features. ... show more

  • nice keyboard for a beginner, smaller spaces, or children
we really like the sound quality of this keyboard! we've had other keyboards that sounded tinny or had a strange feel when pressing the keys. we like that the stand has an adjustable height. the included screwdriver was garbage, as you can see in the picture. we love the variety of included beats. it was packaged securely. as a beginner, its fun to learn on. its a good value for a good quality keyboard ... show more

  • SEP-150S Semi-Weighted 88-Key Digital Piano with Stand by STRICH (sold by Massenan Music)
The media could not be loaded. This keyboard comes with everything you need to get started, has a handful of surprisingly good voices, a good amount of adjustable settings, and is perfect for beginners or instructors teaching students just starting to learn. However, experienced piano players likely won’t find a lot of use for this keyboard. The keyboard is relatively light-weight compared to a lot of other keyboards and the key length (not width) is shorter than normal piano keys, granted this should not affect 90% of piano players. The keys are semi-weighted meaning that there is some resistance when you press down on them. I actually found it to be a bit too sensitive as it’s very easy to accidentally register adjacent keys. This is not good for a player like myself with my own playing style, but it actually is beneficial for beginners or those just starting to learn to play piano as it will teach your fingers to be more accurate. This does come with a metal keyboard stand and it is adequate. It’s not heavy-duty but it is solid enough to keep this keyboard steady without tipping. The assembly of this stand requires two of the metal bars to be on the outside and two of the metal bars to be next to each other on the inside to fit the legs, so keep this in mind to save a bit of time and not have to reassemble it like I had to. This set comes with almost everything you need to get started: the keyboard itself, a sustain pedal, metal keyboard stand, Midi USB-A to USB-B for computer interfacing, some cheaper but functional headphones, key and note stickers you can stick onto the keys for reference and learning, power cable, sheet music/tablet stand, and user manual. It’s perfect for beginners looking to get up and running immediately. The only thing you don’t get is a stool to sit on. The keyboard comes equipped with 128 voices. Sadly, you only get two piano options and neither are exceptional but certainly adequate. Most of these voices are mediocre or not good, but there actually were a handful of surprisingly good sounds that were just as good or better than some voices on my more expensive professional keyboards. There are 200 rhythms as well which is a good number to play around with for creative purposes. This has many standard options such as transposition, tempo, and key velocity, but I was pleasantly surprised with some of the additional settings such as microtonal control and the ability to record right onto the keyboard (the recordings are not saved and erased when the keyboard is powered off). There are two speakers on this keyboard and they work. That’s about as much as I can say about them. They certainly are not high-grade speakers and I did find that my left speaker does rattle quite badly when the low end is registered. Thankfully, there is a headphone 3.5mm (1/8-inch) stereo jack that could potentially allow you to connect this to satellite speakers (so long as you have the appropriate wires and equipment). I found the tone quality was improved using this method. While there is a traditional 5-pin midi jack, it appears that it is only for a “pedal”. I was hoping to emulate voices from my professional keyboard onto this keyboard using this midi method (as I can do this with many other keyboards) but unfortunately it does not work. Instead, you can hook this up to a computer or DAW using the USB-B cable provided. I did not check to see if you can put sounds onto this keyboard, only that you can record sounds from the keyboard (using Garage Band for Apple). Finally, I just can’t image any experienced piano player getting much use from this keyboard. Also, the sensitivity of the keys can be problematic as it’s far too easy to accidentally register sounds from other keys. However, I absolutely see great potential for beginners, children just learning to play, and teachers who like a student to play along with the instructor. Overall, this keyboard has a lot of strengths for beginners, especially since this comes with everything you need to get started, but not a lot of purpose beyond that. It does function perfectly fine and there are some surprisingly positive things to this keyboards such as a few exceptional voices and a good handful of internal settings, but this keyboard truly is suited for beginners. This keyboard would be a great choice for beginners or parents who want to get their kids a “nicer” piano that’s not too expensive or for parents who are unsure if their child will continue playing piano in the future. In other words, if they/you are serious about continuing your skills, you will upgrade to a better unit, but this would be a nice keyboard to start off with. 3 out of 5 stars for experienced piano players 4.5 out of 5 stars for beginners ... show more

  • Worked out great!
Picked this up for our youngest who is learning and thought it would be a great starter. Turns out, it is! He loves it! Assembly was simple, easy and something he helped with. The stand feels pretty sturdy too. The actual keyboard looks really nice and has a good feel. The perfect size for him and his space in his room with plenty of room to move around it. The sound quality is good too. I’m no expert or anything but it does sound good when he’s practicing and he said using the headphones is a huge plus so we don’t have to put up with his repetitive playing. Overall, quality seems to be really good, it’s sturdy and sounds good, and for him being a newbie, he’s loving it! I think it makes a great starter but also think it would make a great piece for anyone really. Good value for the money, I think he’ll have years of enjoyment out of it for sure. I hope this helps you! ... show more
