These rackets are almost "dead", they provide very little ballistic recoil to the ball (ie, it requires some amount of energy to drive the ball where you want it to go. It also has very little or no spin. This racket is lighter than the "STIGA Apex Performance-Level Table Tennis Racket with ACS Technology for Increased Control" [which I also reviewed] which in turn is lighter than the "PRO-SPIN Ping Pong Paddle with Carbon Fiber" racket which I REALLY like [also reviewed]. I purchased this set so my family could get in on the game - I played competitively in the 1980s, and decided to get a table + rackets to have an indoor activity during the colder winter months. The rackets do not provide enough feedback or response when the ball is hit, making it harder for the nascent player to latch onto the skills needed. ... show more

    • Good price for *very* durable casual player paddles

I paid $33 for these. Price has been fluctuating, make sure you dont pay radically more without checking around. The paddles come with a little sticker with ratings on them for Speed, Spin and Control and they are all around 35-50. I gather that the ratings are from the manufacture, and there is no single uniform scale, so I dont know how much meaningful information this really conveys to a casual player. They play like any other casual use paddles I have ever played with -- of the fullsome rubber variety, not the thin wood with a thin rubber piece glued on. The price is right, and we have not seen any durability issues at all despite having these for months. We dont play that much its true, but we have an 8 year old that plays with his friends sometimes (i.e. the paddles have been abused) and despite that they are still fine. I am particularly impressed that none of the balls that came with this set got crushed or dented. In short, the quality is a lot better than the casual stuff I'm used too. If you are really competetive, you might want something better, but if you just want to mess around with your family and the occassional friends, these seem perfect. It might be possible to find the ultra-cheap stuff that I remember from playing growing up, but you'll regret it due to the durability issues that plague the ultra-cheap stuff. This set is definitely worth the money unless your competetive enough to get irate at the casual crowd. ... show more

I’m a good /great player and felt the paddles would work. They were all someone would or should ask for. Except me. I wanted a paddle soft enough to apply great English and return hard hit balls. Through all of this, I’d buy again and understand it’s limitations.

My warehouse manager bought a table for the warehouse . He didn’t want anybody to pitch in so I thought this set would be a good way for me to contribute . These are sturdy paddles that are 20 times better than the cheap ones that came with the table . Everybody at the warehouse shares this set and it is used multiples times a day . There really isn’t much wear and tear on these paddles except for the handle getting dirty but that’s more our fault then the product. I would totally recommend this set for beginners . ... show more

We've been playing for about a month - just some intense family competition. One paddle has a crack/split in the handle and two paddles have the pads peeling off. We don't abuse the paddles (don't throw/drow/bang), it really is just normal play. I expected better quality.

Insanely cheap, but compared to how springy and grippy the nicer more expensive paddles are, these have almost no spin and the surface is more of a foam than a rubber sheet, and it dampens the ball so severely, you feel really wimpy. For casually competetive play, these are pretty bad. For casual casual doubles play at nerfed speeds and no spin, and at an unbelievable price (i was able to get it for $15), you can try these. Minus the cost of the balls, it was almost free. If you want a budget paddle with quality bounce and spin (but kind of on the heavy side), i recommend mapol 2 paddle set.. ... show more

This set is as described and my son is very happy with it. My only complaint is that my son was able to break one of the paddles (on his head) without much pressure. Granted, he shouldn't have been hitting it on his head, but I feel like it should have withstood an 11 year old. I'm still pleased with the purchase and would recommend.
