  • Kids Loved it, Loved the Challenge of Assembly
Directions for assembly were very easy for me to understand and thus be able to tell my kids how to make these.. They are fun to play with, even without the kids

  • Requires skill, components are good quality, vendor is responsive to suggestions
UPDATE: The vendor has supplied me with an updated kit that has a new box and improved instructions. With that comes a new concern: the box is clearly marked "Preschool Toy" which it definitely is not. Perhaps it's a cultural thing, but in the US preschool is understood to mean ages 3 to 5. The listing confusingly describes several ranges of age, none of which includes 3 to 5. I would say 8 as a minimum, although perhaps a very capable 6-year-old could make it work. The solar car project has changed slightly; the wires are no longer pre-connected to the motor. There is no corresponding step in the instructions to make this connection. It could be like other projects in this set where the wires are stripped and threaded through the tabs, then tied to make them tight. I still like my suggestion below of providing them soldered in place with a dab of glue to prevent breakage. Soldering is the preferred way of making these connections but that is a bit advanced for a set of this level. In case you were wondering, the solar car does work; put it on a paved surface in the sun and it scoots right along. PREVIOUSLY: I initially had a problem with the printed instructions that the vendor agreed to fix. I enlarged the instructions so that I could read them, although the photos were still not clear. The components are good quality, although one must be careful with the wires. The first item I worked on, the solar car, seemed simple enough but still required care in assembly. Getting the motor into the correct position involved many tries and some bending of the metal strap that holds it in place, and in the process one of the wires came off (which I soldered back on). A dab of glue on the connections will prevent this. I will update this review after I finish assembling the remaining items. ... show more

  • Hands-on STEM activities with great potential
Many of my 5th grade (10-11 years old) students love to work on hands-on STEM projects like these. They can independently complete them, mostly. They still ask for assistance here and there. I think advertising these for kids as young as 6 is a stretch. Grown ups will be doing most of the building. The written instructions are unbelievably *tiny*. The manufacturer should consider printing separate sheets for each project in much bigger font. While packaged separately, the projects aren't labeled (e.g., Reptile Robot). You need to identify which is which by matching the parts to the ones in the (tiny) photos in the instructions. Tools and batteries included, big plusses. Very reasonable price for what you get. A very solid four stars **** for the amazing STEM experiences offered, with the caveats listed above. ... show more

  • Great screen free activity
I got this kit for my summer screen free activities for my son. On first glance all the pieces seem to be here and this will make for a great activity for him on rainy days. The instruction seem to be clear and my son should be able to do these unassisted. I like that there is one more than one build. Nice price and good activity for summer. ... show more

  • Awesomely educational
My nephew, who's almost 5 years old, has been taking everything apart to see how it all works. Decided to get him this so he can learn how things actually work from the start. He's been having a lot of fun putting them together, and is taking fewer things apart. He'd assembled one, then took it apart to reassemble it again. Pretty sure that for is actual fifth birthday in a few months, I'll likely end up getting him a slightly more advanced set since he loved this one so much; his parents are also having fun building with him. ... show more

  • Fun for the grandson
This set is really nice for our 6yr old grandson who likes to build/destruct/restruct... he enjoys playing with lego's too and this is similar, but like 'next level'... we had a great time building a few projects together before he banished me to another toy and was eager to figure it out on his own and show me his creations. He definitely has a curious mind and this is perfect for that. Some of the pieces seem fragile and so not sure how long they will last, but for now this is great to teach him about physics and basic electrical principles without him realizing it's science that's happening. Good times! ... show more

Our kid is really into robotic engineering and with this kit, we're able to encourage his interests. He's 8 and had no issues following along and building some really cool stuff. Any kids interested in building and learning while having fun will enjoy this. Makes for a great gift !
