  • Harrowing, but rewarding.
It was nervewracking to open the Steam Deck, to install my new 2 TB drive, but it paid off. It runs faster... but hotter. The second time around, installing the heatsik and removing the ESD shield and swapping in the heatsink, was a breeze. Closed back up in 30 minutes or less, and I have noticed significant improvement in the temperatures, both by touch and monitors. It's still a beast and runs VERY warm, but I am less concerned about extended playtime endangering the SSD. Good stuff. P.S. You really do need to take out the ESD sheath from the OEM drive. That's the only way I can imagine someone was unable to close the case after installation. I have had zero issue with Wi-Fi in the home, at work, school and in stores. ... show more

  • Kit worked well
Used this kit for my Steam Deck SSD upgrade. Worked well, however the screwdriver supplied is not the larger size needed to accurately fit the Deck's screws. Although it can certainly remove the screws, I didn't want to risk damaging the originals. I didn't use the heatsink itself, opting to use the original wrap instead. The triangular spreader "guitar pick" was the most used item and was white instead of blue. I will say it didn't mark up the case with color, but slight marring of the Deck's fine edges did occur. Nothing noticeable, but it is to be expected when using generic tools at this price point. ... show more

  • All-in-one kit for an easy install
Really like this kit. Perfect sized screwdriver, plenty of spare parts, and the copper heatsink keeps you from having to peel off the foil from your original SSD (which is very difficult) and very likely works better. Made the install a breeze.

  • Would have been easier with things labeled and better instructions
I bought this to go with an upgraded SSD for my sons Steam Deck and I am glad I got it. the pry tool helped delicately open the deck without ruining any tabs. I recommend being gentle and taking your time this is not a time consuming job. The kits comes with several thermal pads that are different colors and sizes without labels and the instructions don't give you clear instructions for where to put them and I think there are more than you need. My SSD had a thicker and a thinner chip so I suspect the different pads are for SSDS with different thicknesses of chips. I topped the chips with different thickness of pads so the copper heatsink is even. If your SSD has a sticker over the ships leave it there it is part of the thermal solution. Pay attention where you took off screws. I made the mistake of thinking I saw spots where Valve left screws out. Think I knew better, I used the spare screws in this kit to fill the extra screw holes only to discover a couple of the holes were held by the screws from the outside of the case. I was a little worried the thicker heatsink would be a bulge against the case but everything fine together fine. ... show more

  • Great product
I bought this item along with a WD Black 2TB SSD for my new Steam Deck. This came very quickly and with nearly everything needed to install. I say nearly everything because mine did not come with instructions in the package. Not a major problem because I came back to the product page and looked at the photos, where the instructions and visuals are. Overall, my Steam Deck has been running perfectly and so far I haven't noticed any heat. I highly recommend this item! ... show more

  • Does not fit in Steam Deck
First of all here are the things I did in order to get this to "fit" 1. Removed SSD from slot. 2. Removed SSD sleeve that came with the stock unit. to get more space. 3. Reinstalled SSD into slot with heatsync. 4. Closed the unit as best as I could, was buldging. 5. Took the SSD out again and noticied the headsync was slightly slotted to slide onto an SSD, just not the steam decks. 6. As a last resort I bend the heatsync so it was slightly wider and it was flush with the top of the SSD 7. Still bulging and then a major issue occured during testing. The major problem with this heatsync is it makes the unit buldge. Since the unit is bulging that means the flexible metal cover that protects a good chunk of the board, including where the SSD is, gets bent out of shape. This piece of flexible metal is conductive. It is suppose to be in contact with various metal zig-zag springs around the board to act as a ground. The area where the SSD resides has one of those springs. That spring does not touch the flexible metal cover any longer and was causing various issues with the deck. If I slightly twisted the device, it crashed. If I set the device down to hard, it crashed. If I gripped the device slightly too hard it would crash. If one of the ground springs flips states (touching to not touching and vice-versa) on the flexable metal cover, it causes a system crash and can break it. DO NOT USE THIS ON A STEAM DECK!!! ... show more

  • Fits and funtions
I came across this kit by mistake when buying a upgraded hard drive for my steam deck and almost hesitated due to the comments about it not fitting. There’s plenty of clearance at least with the LCD model and seems to be working flawless. Don’t forget to buy an enclosure for the old drive to use a portable hard drive. ... show more
