  • This book is so informative I'm readying it AGAIN!
This is a fantastic book written by a doctor who's been there, done that, when it comes to having been much too heavy. He spent a lot of his life being overweight, and then doing goofy diets, but as we all know by now, diets rarely have lasting effects. He now just eats primarily a steak a day (according to the book, maybe he's changed that). I liked the book because it's very comprehensive yet easy to read and quite motivating. Nowadays besides being a heart surgeon, he helps people with weight issues. I'm actually reading the book again...something I very rarely do! Lots of interesting and helpful information in this book ... show more

  • Must read for anyone who cares about their health!
Dr. Ovadia clearly lays out the case for heart health prevention and best practices to keep your body, heart and mind healthy to avoid medical emergencies. This is not a diet book but it does provide a roadmap for a healthy eating lifestyle and makes the case that the Standard American Diet alongside a sedentary lifestyle is the root cause of metabolic disease. The detractors will shout from the rooftops that there are no peer reviewed studies proving his claims, but the fact of the matter is that there is currently no funding for such studies and my personal opinion is that is because what he proposes as the proper human diet (real, whole single ingredient foods instead of highly addictive processed food type products loaded with sugar and seed/vegetable oils) is simply not profitable enough for the major corporations to fund such studies. I highly recommend this book for anyone who take control over their own health and stay off the operating table! ... show more

While I found the information in this book quite helpful. I was rather disappointed that it did not contain the latest data on cholesterol and statin use. Someone not familiar with this information may get the idea that statins are ok , that they will be helpful when the fact is they are more harmful. Otherwise, great book. ... show more

I loved that Dr. Ovadia wrote this in a simple, understandable way. The advice is very practical. You can tell this book came from 'his heart', with a passion for doing the right thing by people. It's astonishing to realize some of the things I have heard and believed from some healthcare, government and business communities have been deceitful and purposefully misleading in favor of greed. Dr Philip Ovadia's book entitled "Stay Off My Operating Table" is an eye opening, easy reading, understandable, and comprehensive look at why so many Americans are so overweight, and in poor health. We have (literally) been fed MISINFORMATION about a healthy diet to achieve good METABOLIC HEALTH by the pharmaceutical and agriculture industries with complicity by the Federal Government to back up all their false assertions.   • Clear your mind of what you ‘think’ you know as healthy and read this!
Having tried so many diets over 5 decades and wanting to live out the last of my life the healthiest I can be, I bought this book on the title alone. Well, it resonated through every cell in my body! Dr Ovadia doesn’t bash you for dietary choices…he totally gets it himself! This isn’t an in depth study of metabolic syndrome nor does it spell out a good plan. But it explains how our eating choices have evolved from our ancestors to current dietary and medical practices, industry, etc., creating the obese world of people we are with so many health issues and why we got here…AND how to change it in your life. An easy and enjoyable read that’s judgement free and supportive! How I’d love to talk with him for just a few minutes! ... show more
