  • Supports Dual 4K Monitors - Worked Right Out Of The Box!
Excellent product. Worked right out of the box! Save yourself tons of time with trial/error and returns! My needs were quite simple: - When working at home, I simply wanted to set my laptop on my desk, plug in a USB cable (and a power cable to my laptop itself) and be done with it! My hardware: - Lenovo Flex 5 Laptop with USB C 3.0 port non-powered (from Costco) - Dual LG 34", 21:9 aspect ratio, 2560 x 1080 resolution, wide monitors (from Costco) - Logitech wireless keyboard/mouse combo (from Costco) I had bought literally a half dozen different docking station type of units to try. Until purchasing different docking station products, I did not realize that many of the solutions did not support a USB C 3.0 port that's on my laptop. I would search for USB C 3.0 products on Amazon, and somehow, apparently the units I bought, even after reviewing countless specs, did not work as advertised. The next best solution I found was by a company called J5. Their docking station worked well too, but it did not work for both of my monitors - one of the HDMI ports only supported 2K. I learned the hard way that 4k is needed for my 21:9 ratio monitors running 2560 x 1080 resolution. The StarTech.com Dual 4K Docking Station was going to be my last option before giving up. Thankfully it worked right out of the box. I chose to use the standard USB A port to connect to my laptop because it was more of a solid connection than using the USB C port. The USB A port has a USB C connector on the other side of the cable to connect to the docking station. I would recommend spending the money on the StarTech, getting something that just works, and stop trying the cheaper alternatives! Lesson learned! ... show more

  • MacOS not fully supported. Mouse lag makes it unusable. Poor support.
Keep in mind that graphics processing is done in a chip in the dock, and your CPU. The graphics card of your computer is bypassed. If you are using native 1080p or native 4K resolutions (without HiDPI), then this dock will work just fine. Just do not expect to be able to play games or do any graphics intensive task. We purchased the Startech dock because it supposedly supports Dual 4K @ 60Hz on MacOS. However, it is hidden somewhere in the displaylink website that 4K HiDPI resolution support is experimental. Indeed, 4K video skips frames, even on a 2020 8-core MacBook Pro. If you are using HiDPI resolutions, forget about this dock. While some applications behave okay, others do not. Hovering the mouse cursor over Slack, Microsoft Teams, Spotify etc leads to extreme mouse lag, skipping and jitter. Disabled hardware acceleration in the apps, to no avail. Lower resolutions reduce lag (partially) but make image fuzzy. The only way to avoid mouse lag is to connect monitors directly to the MacBook, which beats the purpose of a dock. I contacted StarTech support, and all they did was ask what kind of mouse I am using... (really????) Tech support from DisplayLink (who manufactures the chip and drivers for this dock) is more intelligent, but has not yet addressed the issue. DisplayLink support on MacOS has historically been poor. If you want to use a Mac, better to get a thunderbolt 3 dock. Unless you have a 16" MacBook, with the defective 5300m or 5500m GPUs, which overheat with external monitors. In this case, this dock helps, as it bypases the mac's defective GPU, allowing your mac to stay cool and quiet. You will just have to stick to a native 1080p resolution, or 4K native at best. Do not try to use 4K HiDPI, as you will be dissapointed. ... show more

  • Great Product past 6 months+
I waited for a while to write anything. I bought this in August of 21 and its now Feb 22 I have 2 4k Monitors both achieving 4k without any blink issues etc or anything turning off. USB into the back of my ASUS Rog Strix with a Ryzen 9 and a 3080 I would say that as far as having 2 4k monitors plus the laptop open and on all the time while working, this product has gone above and beyond. It runs everything i need to between video... games... programs...editing softwares etc. AS well as remote things. I am not experiencing some other things i have seen noted such as 'no 4k' or 'overheating' I feel like those may be more a computer or physical surroundings issue or lack of driver. ... show more

  • Helps when WFH
Got this for my WFH set up about two months ago. I was able to connect 2 monitors via HDMI and a wireless keyboard and mouse dongle to this and then my work laptop. Giving it four stars because sometimes the monitors will briefly cut out every now and then (could be user error I guess) and I couldn’t figure out how to connect it to my personal laptop (Surface Laptop) as there’s no USB-C port. USB to USB cables didn’t work. Otherwise, the driver should download automatically and connecting all your devices within a few minutes ... show more

  • Fantastic docking system
I bought this to hook up my new laptop to two 32" HD Vizio TVs that I use as monitors. This particular model allows two HDMI connections which is what I needed. There are two Display Port connections as well. There are four USB ports on the front. I use one for a keyboard and one for my scanner. The scanner, which scans up to 50 ppm duplex, performs flawlessly through the docking station. There are audio jacks on the front. I have used the headphone jack late at night, and it works as well as using the headphone jack on the laptop. This is an excellent product and well worth the price. ... show more

  • Works great! - used with my Mac Book Pro
I'm a tech and use this every day - Overall it's exactly what I needed to convert my laptop experience to a desktop environment. However, setup is a bit tricky and you have to allow many permissions on the Mac and install drivers (found online). I have not tested on PC but pretty sure it's an easier setup. I like it very much - makes my work life easier! ... show more
