  • Intermittent issues but overall great!
This is the best option I've found by far in a long search for a way to quickly switch between my work and personal computers (both macbooks). My old system was to reach back and unplug a bunch of things and switch them over which, if you're looking at this switch, you've probably experienced as super annoying. I've tried various combinations of switches and connectors but they all lose something or other along the way. This switch is intended for exactly my purpose and works well except for one complaint: One of my computers fails to connect to the monitor about 50% of the time. I don't know why. When I switch over to it the mouse and keyboard work but the monitor says "no signal." Switching back and forth (so just trying again) generally succeeds. The intermittent nature of this issue makes it pretty annoying but nowhere near the hassle of unplugging everything. If I could find this exact product that somehow didn't have this issue I would gladly pay twice the price, but so far this is the best I've found. ... show more

  • Good KVM, but NOT EDID
This KVM does what it's supposed to, HOWEVER some of the reviews say it has EDID support and this is not correct. Perhaps this listing once had multiple models. I can confirm that the SV211HDUC (2 port USB-C, bus powered) does NOT support EDID. This is my own experience as well as talking with StarTech support. What this means is that your devices will not maintain their display settings when you switch from one device to the other. If you are extending the desktop on your devices to the KVM, every time you switch, the active computer will reset itself to extending the desktop, while the inactive computer will reset itself to not extend. All this takes about 10 seconds each time you press the switch. Definitely a setback when developing on one device and testing on the other. Otherwise, it's a good switch. Wish there was a keyboard toggle like IOGEAR models have, but otherwise it does the trick. ... show more

  • Functions Well, But Weird Port Layout
This KVM does exactly what I need it to do, and it's apparently the only USB C switch out there for a reasonable price. So that's great. But the input ports are on the opposite side of the device from the output port. Why aren't they all on one side, opposite the switch, so they are facing the back of my desk? How was the company thinking I'd orient this thing? As far as I can tell, it has no front. As it is, I have is kind of side oriented and had to get 90 degree adapters for all the cables so that there weren't lines running in all directions. Just kind of silly, unforced error by StarTech. ... show more

  • Works great with M1 Mac mini and Intel NUC 10
I use it to switch between a M1 Mac mini and Intel NUC 10. Nice reduction in cables compared to a more traditional KVM switch and the fact that it is bus powered is a nice bonus. I run it at 4K 60Hz. It feels very solidly built. My biggest complaint is that it takes a long time to switch between the two. When I switch to my Mac Mini it takes long enough that my display goes to sleep (around 2 seconds longer than the sleep timeout) and when I switch to the Intel NUC 10 it just barely finishes syncing before the display goes to sleep. It is not really a big deal and my monitor might partly be to blame for this but it is something you might want to be aware of if you are someone who switches between the two computers very frequently. Also a minor nitpick, I wish the USB-C input ports (PC1 and PC2) would have been on the back of the unit next to the HDMI port rather than on the front. In my case my computers are placed behind the monitor so it looks a bit strange with the cables going into the front. ... show more

  • Doesn't really work... (UPDATED)
**UPDATE** I have noticed the Mac Mini with the M1 chip can be slow to wake from sleep no matter how it is cabled to a display. The machine is also prone to shutdowns and restarts while in sleep mode. So I do think some of the reluctance to toggle the display to the M1 Mini has to do with possible bugs in this newer silicon and interface with the OS, maybe not as much to blame with the switch itself. That said, the switch sometimes has a hard time connecting with the MacBook Pro as well, maybe about 20% of the time I need to unplug/replug cables to pick up a signal, and in general, the time from sleep to wake just takes a bit longer when running the display through the switch. I bought this KVM switch to be able to more easily share a Dell display while I toggle between a MacBook Pro laptop I use for work, and my new Mac Mini (M1). Pressing the button to switch which computer is using the display never works on its own. I have to do some additional combination of turning the display off and back on, and removing and re-plugging the thunderbolt cables... The alternative I had been using is to connect the Mac Mini to the display with an HDMI cable, connect the MacBook Pro to the display (via a usb hub) with a thunderbolt cable, and changing which source the monitor is receiving. I also had the additional step of manually unplugging the usb keyboard from one computer and plug it into the MBP's usb hub (the mouse is plugged into the keyboard). Although this alternative method "works", it requires me to navigate through the display's clumsy buttons and menu, and to awkwardly move a usb cable between devices. I had hoped that the convenience of a simple press of a button to solve this coordination problem would be worth the (rather steep) price, but it's not at all worth it when the problem is only more complicated...at least I know what steps to take to switch computers with the display before using the KVM; but with the KVM it's a guessing game when the computer and monitor will see each other after power cycles and multiple unplug/plug cycles. ... show more
