  • Exceeds expectations!
Color: 2-Color Sunburst Size: Full
I'm a bassist with over 30 years of touring and recording experience with Grammy winning reggae, hip hop and soul artists. I'm knee deep in the NYC recording and local gig scene during Covid. Firstly, the Squire Classic Vibe basses are worth every penny and then some. I own the 60's P Bass and the 60's Mustang Bass. Swapped out the pick up on the P, and flats on the lot of them. Perfect for that phat tone everyone wants and needs in Brooklyn. Run it through a decent amp, and be mindful, your sound is all in the fingers and your confidence in them and you're good brotha and sista's.. This one, has the aesthetics I dig. What can I say, its pretty. I took out the pick guard to reveal the lovely wood grain. No need to scratch it up and "relic" it. Thats goofy to me. Live life, and it will do it naturally. But I digress. So yeah, its pretty. Next up, its well built. The weight feels good. The nobs turn and around all unbalanced... You plug it in and can dial up a nice single coil phat tone... you can roll out the high's and go even heavier. Its feeling like a woman with a big bottom, which is how we like the bass to feel in Brooklyn. It gets attention. And its right in the pocket. The neck is easy on the hands, in that its not like holding a baseball bat... its designed for playability, so you're not getting an actual 51' P bass.. but a funky fascimile that you can work a two or three set gig without your hands going into carpal tunnel.. nice for beginners...and pro's I'd say. Single coil means you'll have a hum... its not a humbucker... but with your hand on the instrument, it grounds it out.. I don't mind the hum anyway... it reminds me that the thing is doing what single coils do...so get over it whiners.. As you read in many of these reviews.. and I'm sure you've seen on youtube vids... you can rock this baby for all styles.. I won't go into it.. but with that Fender sound.. you can dial into all genre's. with a pick.. or your fingers.. or thumb.. played by the bridge.. or close to the neck. Intonation was fine.. the nut up top.. no problem. Like I said.. straight out the box I had what I needed, minus the pick guard.. trash can... and with the flats I swap out on all my basses.. I want these flats to get old and dead as a doornail. a natural mute....but hey that's me. So I'll end this review by saying.. get this bass, if you're thinking budget and phatness. And enjoy the beauty of the simplicity of it all. Imagine that.... ... show more

  • Outstanding Squier Bass
Color: White Blonde Size: Full
Musical instruments like music are to individual taste, of course, but my goodness! Outstanding instrument! I'll sum it up this way: both my guitarist and drummer we're impressed enough to tell me how good it sounded at my 1st gig with it. High praise! Fit and finish are excellent. Couple minor unnoticeable (to public) blemishes but otherwise beautiful instrument. It's a heavy bass though, about 9-10lbs but well balanced with no neck dive. White blond and maple fretboard are simply gorgeous together, makes a statement for sure. And I'm personally partial to '50s P-Bass look with Telecaster head. But you can't play color or looks, so how's it sound? Best I've heard...ever. I play through a combo preamp foot pedal to Hartke amp and 210 cab to front of house PA. A touch of compression, everything else neutral on amp. Preamp bass at 1 o'clock, mid and treb at 11. Bass pot 90% rolled off treb. My goodness, the bottom end is impressive! Full, rich, and booming. Been playing a Sterling Stingray through same rig and could never come close to this Squier's bottom end. Same with my other Squier P-Bass. The single Alnico single coil pickup is key. Placed slightly off center closer to the neck together with me playing between it and the neck. Plus I put older flats on it, the only setup I did on it out of the box. And that full, rich sound carries up the scale to all strings. If you're looking for a classy instrument with full, rich bottom end to cut through the mix that's a joy to play, give this one a look. Well worth the $450 my family paid for my 65 birthday present (old rockers don't die, we just play off into the sunset). Highly recommend. ... show more

  • I love the look and feel of this bass!
Color: 2-Color Sunburst Size: Full
This from an absolute beginner in bass guitar. So I am not going to say how it plays. Leave that to the bass players. I bought this because is an absolute beauty. The styling is just incredible. Just looking at it and feeling it is a joy. The price was right. I did not have to finance it, and make payments for a couple of years. One of these days, when I play better, I might justify getting the Fender version, although my friend said the Squiers sound just fine, and good players can still get a lot from it. So I may stick to his advice. The truss rod needed adjustment, but it came with the hex key and instructions on how to adjust it. With a couple of turns, it felt and sounded great. To a newbie, anyway. Pros: * Looks fantastic! * Feels great! * Play feels very smooth * Price is right * Craftmanship looks really solid Cons: * It is not a "real" Fender, so purists may find it off putting ... show more

  • Love it
Color: 2-Color Sunburst Size: Full
I wanted a 50s style p-bass for quite a while – and this bass fit the bill. I love the classic sound of this bass which is the same type played by Dusty Hill of ZZTop and Sting. This guitar is very well built especially for the price. Great value. It is branded as Squire, but if it had been branded as Fender I would not have been able to tell the difference. I’ve played a $1,300 version of this guitar branded as Fender and they are essentially identical. Note: single-coil pickup is true to the period and is not a humbucker - you can buy humbucking versions from pickup suppliers like Seymour Duncan. I play this through a Fender Rumble - so there is a tiny bit of hum due to the non-humbucking pickup. The reviewer who is complaining about hum can switch out the pickups or buy a different bass with humbucking pickups. If I was a professional, I would definitely want humbucking pickups, but as an amateur, I don't need or want them. ... show more

  • Perfect!
Color: White Blonde Size: Full
I researched the guitar that was voted in a Bass Magazine as the best bass guitar for under 500 dollars. I can see why! For around 400 dollars you will be shocked by the feel, quality, and action. In addition, the sound clean is rich and soulful. This is a remake worth having in your collection!
