Definitely pre drill a pilot hole so the bit doesn’t walk but overall very good spot weld cutters. I have cut 42 spot welds with one side of one bit so far no issues!

Super valuable tool if you have any need for dealing with spot welds. In my case I was installing some patches for rust repair on a 72 Chevelle and needed to release the spot welds on the lower rear quarter panel. One caveat: I was way too aggressive with the tool the first time I used it. The cutters are SHARP and will eat right through both sides of the spot welded metal. It was so easy I thought that was what it was supposed to do, but then I realized the ideal use is to cut from the side you expect to discard to the side you expect to keep, and then only let the cutter penetrate the first sheet of metal. That way you are left with “meat” on the keeper side. I bored right through my first several and ended up with the 3/8 inch holes to fill. Second: a center punch or small pilot drill bit is a must have. The cutter wanders without a pilot hole. All in all a great purchase and looks durable. ... show more

Removing spot welds from an old British car to.replace panels… this has worked great. Drill to mill out part of weld and establish center, then circular saw through top sheet it metal. A little practice locating the welds and don’t get to aggressive with the saw. Easy. Ya, I went through about 1 of 15 welds. ... show more

I was working on a 1970 GM A body restoration and had a TON of spot welds to drill out. I had purchased similar items from Harbor Freight, but they wore out fast and were about 5 bucks per cutting head. I found this product on amazon expecting to get the same quality as what I found at harbor freight. However... I have yet to replace the cutting head.... I was able to drill out an estimated 80-100 spot welds before I got the feeling the cutting head was starting to dull, but it still cuts! Anyone who is saying this is junk may not be using it right. It definitely helps to use a small 1/4 inch bit to make a pilot for the centering pin to sit in, start the drill on high speed and SLOWLY push into your material until the cutter gets started in a groove, then you can apply as much pressure as you like and go to town. I cut through 18 and 16 gauge with this. at one point I was cutting through 3 layered material which was tough, but got through. 5 stars because I never had to make another trip to harbor freight, and still have my original cutting head on the tool. highly recommend. ... show more

This worked great for replacing my core support on my 04 wrx. I recommend watching some how to video's first and I highly recommend a spring loaded center punch to get you started and stay on center, then use the supplied drill bit to make a dimple and very slowly start cutting. It will want to walk around if you aren't careful but if you start slow and add pressure as it starts to dig a groove it works perfectly. Also I found a higher speed on my drill worked better. I was able to do all of the spot welds on this core support without even changing the blade and it was my first time using it. I would absolutely buy it again. ... show more
