Fun sequel
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4

I enjoyed Battle for Bikini bottom way back on the ps2. I'm glad we got a remake. Dehydrated was great. Since is Cosmic Shake. Love the new areas and new stuff. The only thing that was meh/could be better was the platforming was easy. Really easy. I never felt challenged. The first and remake challenged me. Those games are somewhat of a challenge. Boss fights, too. Maybe I'm too good. I did cut my teeth on those ps1/n64 games. It's not bad. It was fun, but not hard. This is still a good game for SpongeBob fans.

Nothing remotely exciting but still a fun game.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 4
Edition: Standard Edition
While most of the game is likely a rehash of Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated as the gameplay is one-for-one identical to the former but with some new touch-ups for SpongeBob's abilities. The many unlockable costumes for SpongeBob as neat references from thousands of episodes from the show gives the game charm and a nice throwback for fans that grew up with the series.

Edit nov 2020 There's a free ps5 digital upgrade released now. Strange that they released the ps5 version almost a year later but its here lol no current difference than ps4 besides photo mode and a couple extra outfits. No performance or 4k mode just whatever is default. Strange enough it looks better at 1080p than 4k ps5 output. Idk why its like seeing finer details without there being finer details makes ps5 picture look weird lol ---- Edit after 100%: Im changing review to 5 stars. This is gonna be a certified classic. The perfect comparison to this is how ratchet and clank into the nexus was on the ps3, a shorter than mainline but higher in quality game that needs to be judged on its own merits. I was extremelt reluctant first then by the end of it I kept wanting to continue and will definitly replay in future. The 7 worlds are much longer than bfbb worlds and have alot happening in them. So much that the game is best played by doing a speed through first then going back post game for extra cleanup as the other remaining collectibles and quests appear after first completion. So youre looking at 1.5 play throughs but it never feels like a chore even the second time. The world, characters and detail grew on me and the platforming varies with new abilities unlocked even in the final world. Actually shocked that it made me change my opinion of it as you need to NOT COMPARE THIS TO THE FIRST GAME if you want to have a good time. Instead of comparisons you should enjoy whats happening and take your time since this is a different game. Its a "spiritual sequel" not direct and i think thats what sets expectations to a different level than what they should be. Overall its a massive improvement in detail and quality as youll see as you progress through the worlds. I wasnt a fan of the first world "cowboy desert" environment pales in comparison to jellyfish fields of the first game but if you push through it youll find the game growing on you. Also pirate world best world confirmed. Original: Coming from battle from bikini bottom rehydrated remake, this felt like it shouldve been a successor and greater based on the pictures shown but it feels more like a partial effort attempt at doing something. It doesnt have the same colors, environment, music, and overall charm of the first game. It didnt take much from the first game except partial move sets. Its more of a contractual show/movie game like how videogames based on movies used to be back in the day. The problem im having is my ps4 and ps5 both gave me install errors and even after guaranteeing space on the drive, the errors continued until i reset my entire ps4 which noone should do to install a game. Apparently you can also speed through the entire game in about 5-6 hours according to some time to beat sites which is ridiculous for modern non indie games. If youre looking for a battle for bikini bottom sequel of the same quality and scale. This aint it unfortunately
