The product is handmade so there are some irregular finishes near the bottom. It says Made in Poland on the box. Just so you know, Canadian government says the use of a lead-crystal decanter can cause the lead concentration to go 100 times above the health limit. This Spiegelau claims to be lead free.     • Beautiful Decanter - Most Durable Crystal

We discovered Spiegelau about 6 years ago. Their crystal is the most durable. Sure it is not hand blown, but their addition of platinum instead of lead makes the crystal super durable. Our wine glasses have fallen on tile, into the sink, etc and have never broken or chipped. We also wash them in the dishwasher on a regular basis and no etching has occurred in many years. We have moved numerous times with them and have always held up well. This Decanter is a Christmas gift. It is absolutely stunning in its simplicity. I was looking at a Schott decanter as well, but chose this one because of our experience with Spiegelau products and the classic nature of this decanter. It is hard to clean like most decanters are, but that is the only con. It is durable, beautiful and will last a life time. There are a lot of decanters out their from Reidel and others that are several hundred dollars and trendy, this one is a classic and will look great with that 2009 Borolo we will drink on my daughters 21st birthday. ... show more

It's beautiful. It's sturdy. The shape is perfect for decanting. But it's hard to pour without spilling. This is a beautiful decanter. It's crystal clear and looks like a $100+ crystal decanter. This is relatively not a fragile decanter. It is pretty thick including the lip. It has that wide bottom that you want in a decanter. Unfortunately, I can't seem to pour without it dripping down the sides. Maybe because the lip is too thick? ... show more
