And by full I mean it was so close to the top I spilled a lil bit taking the seal off! That is unheard of today... most things have a half inch gap or more at the top lol. I'm sure that Chef Calvin is a nice guy and I'll assume that he is a great chef. All chefs, including myself, always have a "secret spice blend" that is universal, i.e., it can be used on eggs, white meats, red meats, seafood, vegetables, etc. Most all of these blends start with paprika, especially if they are primarily for meat. Chef Calvin starts with smoked paprika, but most of the smokiness comes from a natural smoke flavor he adds. He also uses fennel, which is a bit different and he adds yeast extract (umami) and citric acid (tartness). Is this a good blend? As I say in most of my food reviews, de gustibus est non disputandum, that is, there is no disputing taste. You like what you like and I like what I like. Some people prefer NY pizza, others Chicago style. Is one right and the other wrong? Most people will say it's a choice. I say only NY pizza is real pizza :) But seriously folks, everyone has their own taste and I'd think that there are many people out there for whom this will be a 5-star product and others where it's a 2 star. I couldn't conceive of anyone giving it only 1 star. When it comes to foods if there's nothing basically wrong with it (it's mislabeled, arrives stale or rancid, it makes spurious nutrition claims, etc.) I could never say "don't try it because I don't like the taste." And, just to refine that comment, I DO like the way this tastes, I like it more for proteins, especially red meats, and I will use this and be happy with it. My 3-star rating is because some may not like it, some will love it. In the end, it's a blend not unlike the hundreds of other blends you see on the shelves. The best I can say is "try it". I hope you love it and, at worst, I very much doubt that you'll hate it. But I can't give it 5 stars because it is so similar to other blends and because I have no idea what you like, and don't like.
