I was very impressed with this baitcaster reel. It is well made and easy to use. Baitcasters are smooth and easy to cast....once you learn how to use them. If youre not careful, it will quickly turn your line into a ball of knotted line inside the reel. This one is smooth and easy to use, easy to adjust, and I have minimal issues getting the feel of it. This bale caster is Light weight, compact and has a smooth casting. There is a learning curve switching from spinning reels. After many nesting accidents I had to research how to set the spool tension and brake. The instructions are incomplete so I relied on the internet a lot. Casting is pretty smooth and I can get a decent cast. The drag is easy to adjust and in a convenient location on the reel. The body of the reel is made out of a carbon alloy which is light and durable. And the inside tears are brass, aluminum alloy, or stainless steal, not much plastic. I chose a left hand caster being right hand dominant. The spool seams to hold only about 110 yards of line, which is a lot less than what I’m use to. I don’t know, I will need to use it a lot to see if I get comfortable with it. It’s priced right along the lines of other casters and is quality built. ... show more

Pros: Looks good. Smooth cast and retrieve. Nice drag setup. Easy to dial in the tension on the spool for casting. Cons: Backlashed into the spool side bearing with ultra light weight braid and jighead. Part of that is user error but could be fixed by carefully setting the spool tension. I've been fishing with baitcasters for 35 years and was curious about the new BFS craze but didn't want to spend $$$ on a light tackle baitcaster since I have nice spinning reels for that. I saw this one for $54 and figured why not try it. I had a medium light rod I was not using in a 6'10" length that paired perfectly with it. After receiving and unboxing it, I was impressed about how light this reel is! At 6oz, this thing is feather light compared to my Shimano Curado DCs (7.8oz). The spool is the key piece of technology in this reel. It is riddled with holes to make this the lightest spool available. The reduced weight cuts down on the inertia required to start the spool on a cast with light tackle. I spooled it with about 20 yards of 10lb mono backing and spooled the rest with 10 lb PowerPro braid. I then tied on a 12ft 8lb Seaguar Invis-X flouro leader. Man... this thing casts 1/8oz lures MUCH farther than my Shimano Vanford spooled with 8lb braid! I've only caught crappie thus far with this setup and have been extremely happy with the smooth drag and smoothness of the gearing. One of the small gripes I have with this reel is that the gap between the spool edges and the frame of the reel is too wide. My 8lb flouro leader sometimes gets into the space between the spool and frame and has spun around the spool shaft on a few occasions. Any thicker line might not be a problem, but it's a BFS so I don't plan on using anything over 10lb test. I may get another one of these since they are so inexpensive and works great, before I set my sights on some Shimano BFS reels. This seems to be a good buy for now. This is a nice, compact BFS baitcaster that won't break the bank. The spool is lightweight, and the cranking action is very smooth for this price range. It has a standard magnetic type brake which is less sophisticated than some of the pricier BFS reel options (I own a Shimano Aldebaran and a KastKing Valiant Eagle II for comparison), so you do have to be a bit more careful to avoid overruns. Super aggressive, snappy casts can spell trouble, but smooth flips/flicks are great. If you're looking for an affordable BFS option, this reel is worth looking at. ... show more

This little bait caster is great. I was looking for a smaller bait caster for use up in the boundary waters of Minnesota. This reel will be used for Small Mouth bass, and should work excellent. Since it is Winter in MN, this won't get used til spring here. But, having used many bait casters in the past, this one ranks right up with some of the other bigger name brands. The drag is conveniently located, and the tension control knob is easily accessible as well. Making it easy to adjust on the fly. The spool release is tactile and responsive. The magnetic braking system is easy to set, by starting at maximum, and working down to its ideal position depending on what you fishing for and how you are fishing, and the line you have loaded. Overall, a great entry level bait caster - nice features, easy to use, and should work great for the small mouth I plan to go after with it. I would certainly recommend this reel upon first impressions, but we will see how it works under pressure and over time. ... show more
