    • Works like it should
First, I like SpeTool bits. I also like replaceable carbide inserts when they are available and appropriate. This has both. My only real complaints are that Amazon doesn't always provide the bit number (BTW this one is a W06016) and SpeTool doesn't maintain it's tool database. I end up wasting time finding the data so I can keep my CAD/CAM software correct.....So, it only gets 4-stars rather than the five it deserves. ... show more

I hadn't tried the insert-type router bits prior -- pleasantly surprised at the results.

    • Out of balance excessive vibration
I wanted this to work. The tool did cut very well but it is a bad design and runs out of balance. My spindle had excessive vibration due to a balance design issue with the tool. There are other reviews about the same thing so buyer beware.

    • I like using Carbide Insert tools.
The SpeTool Carbide Insert 90 Degree V Groove Router Bit is well designed and makes a nice smooth cut. I have used Carbide inserts for lathe work in the past. This is the first I have used the tool in a router. The big difference is that on the lathe, the wood turns, and the tool remains stationary. On the router, the wood is stationary, and the carbide rotates. I actually like the carbide insert concept for both applications. I am more successful at sharpening a carbide insert than I am at sharpening a fixed bit. Therefore, I get a lot more use out of the insert tool. ... show more

    • Hate to say it.. I really wanted to like it
This is really unfortunate because the idea of easily removing a blade and keeping the bit was just too good. I REALLY wanted to like this. I run a CNC machine regularly and take pride in my setup. Every bit I run in my spindle/router does not cause any vibration or issues with the machine. When I put this bit in, my machine starts vibrating violently. The reality is that this bit has dynamic balance problems both with the blade and without the blade (I had to test both). Two stars because the product is a stinker but Spetool is usually a great bit company. I have a bunch of other products from them that have worked very well. ... show more

    • Good quality and sharp
Wow, this bit is sharp and makes a very clean cut. My previous 90-degree V bit had been operating very well for quite a while, but I had to give this one a try. I didn't realize how dull my previous bit had become. This new bit is cutting SO MUCH BETTER. The bit comes packaged nicely and has no damage. The replaceable blade is a great feature. The blade appears to be a standard size, but we'll have to figure that one out when the time comes to replace it. The bit comes with the tools to do the swap, so I'm good to go there. I use this bit in my CNC router and use the cut depths recommended for typical 90 V bits. I think this is .2", and this bit on my CNC seems to like that depth and the standard speed/feed. The cut edges are very clean and nothing sounds like it is working too hard or moving too fast. I am very happy with this bit. ... show more

    • Runout is a little high
I normally machine aluminum or steel, but I have run into the need for a set of wood tooling on a few occasions. First thing I normally do is test a new tools runout, which resulted in a not ideal 0.0012". I then tried tightening the insert and the runout remained the same. Eventually after clocking the insert a few times and the tool itself in my holder, I got it down to an acceptable 0.0005". I'm sure this tool will work for pretty much everyone since the precision in wood is not as demanding but you might want to watch for vibrations at high spindle speeds. ... show more
